Seniors.

Our game against Corduff was postponed due to the death of Benny Mc Guirk, R I P. Our next game will be on Saturday evening next, 23rd April, against table toppers Donaghmoyne, in Scotshouse. Throw in is at 7.00 p.m.

Youth Affairs

Playing away, Patrick Emmett’s Under 16’s lost out to a stronger Doohamlet side in the first game of the season last week. On Thursday 21st April we take on Eire Og at 7pm in Scotshouse. All support appreciated.

The under 12’s played Latton in the final game of the Spring League on Saturday last and put in a very strong performance in the second half after a bit of a slow start. We wait to see now how the league structure unfolds for us in the coming weeks. The under 12’s are an emerging team with just a small number of players actually confined to the under 12 age bracket. Some of our players were playing under 8 last year, so they have done really well in their three Spring League games against much more established teams.

On Saturday 23rd April Patrick Emmett’s under 14’s hope to continue their good start to the season when they travel to play Aughnamullen with a 2pm throw in. This team have been selected as one of just four teams to represent Monaghan in an Ulster ‘Feile’ competition on Saturday 25th June to be played in Garvaghy (Tyrone GAA’s Centre of Excellence) with clubs from Cavan, Armagh, Fermanagh & Down also attending. This is very exciting and a wonderful opportunity for the lads. Parents are asked to please make this

competition a priority in your Summer planning. Much more about this closer to the time.

‘Go Games’

Training for the under 10’s continues next Saturday at 9:30am. Under 6 training will be starting in the next few weeks. Please watch out for notices and pass the word. As the weather is playing havoc with the training and games schedule please keep in touch with the various team mentors who will keep all informed in the usual way. There will be a text message sent to parents confirming later.

Mr Benny Mc Guirk, R.I.P.

Currin GFC were saddened to hear of the death of Benny Mc Guirk, Ture, last weekend. The Mc Guirk family are great supporters of all aspects of local community life and Mark Murphy, grandson, is a valued playing member of our club. We in Currin offer our sympathy to his wife Tessie, daughters Bernie, Helen, Geraldine, Rosemarie and Teresa, sons Hugh, Brian, Gene, TJ, Gerry and Donal, and to his extended family and large circle of friends. Go ndeana trochaire ar a ainm dilis.

‘Darkness into Light’

The Walk for Pieta House will take place on Saturday 7th May at 4.15 am. This year the organisers are hoping for participants to preregister. Our local preregistration is on this Thursday 21st April in the Creighton Hotel from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.

‘1916’ Commemoration.

Next Saturday evening April 23rd, Currin GFC will commemorate the ‘1916’ Rebellion with an evening of music, discussion, storytelling and song in our local Community Centre in Scotshouse. The evening will begin at 9.00pm, after our senior game with Donaghmoyne. Refreshments will be served and this is definitely an evening not to be missed.
