Seniors.

Our seniors welcomed Killanny to Scotshouse in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League on Saturday. We started tentatively and allowed Killanny to go two in front. But gradually, Eoin Morrow, Ciaran Mc Caffrey and Jason Mc Kiernan took control in the middle third of the field and we dominated play almost to the end of the half. Seven unanswered points saw use have a healthy and deserved lead approaching half time when a lapse in concentration allowed the visitors in for a goal which saw us only have a slender one point lead at the break. The second half began with a now buoyant Killanny equalising but we went into a two point lead until the loss of Stephen Smith, who was having an excellent return after injury in the sixteenth minute . The visitors hit three points without reply but we showed great resilience and discipline and Dick Clerkin equalised with five to go. In a very sporting game we were full deserving of the draw, if not a little unlucky not to hold out for a win. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, 0-1,45. Colm Mc Caffrey, Enda Mc Caffrey, Dara Brady, Paddy Mc Dermott, 0-1, Sean Brady, Ben Clerkin, Jason Mc Kiernan, Eoin Morrow, Cian North, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Ronan King, Hughie Rielly, Dick Clerkin, 0-8. Dylan Greenan. Subs, Stephen Smyth, 0-1. for Hughie Rielly. Niall Mc Entee for Stephen Smyth (BC), Damien Connolly, Conor Beattie, Mark Murphy, Michael Quigley. Our next game will be on Sunday next 17th against Corduf at 2.30 p.m. in Scotshouse.

Under 14’s,

Patrick Emmett’s came out on top in a hard fought encounter against a much bigger Clontibret on Saturday last (9th)in Aghabog (5-11 to 4-11). On this occasion Jack Mc Quaid’s last minute strike gave us a deserved win. Next game is away to Aughnamullen on Saturday 23rd April at 2pm.

Under 12’s

We play Latton on Saturday 16th April at 11am in Scotshouse. This game has been moved from 2pm due to the Monaghan U21’s playing that day.

‘Go Games’

The ‘Go Games’ got underway on Saturday last when our under 10’s travelled to Eire Og (moved from Killeevan) for a 10am to 12 noon series of games. Games against Aghabog, Eire Og 1 and Eire Og 2 were played and enjoyed by all. The under 8’s ‘Go Games’ are scheduled for Killeevan on Saturday 16th April from 10am to 12 noon but due to the pitch conditions the venue may be changed. There will be a text message to parents confirming venue later in the week.

Training for the under 10’s continues next Saturday at 9:30am. Under 6 training will be starting in the next few weeks. Please watch out for notices and pass the word. As the weather is playing havoc with the training and games schedule please keep in touch with the various team mentors who will keep all informed in the usual way.

‘1916’ Commemoration.

Please keep free the evening of Saturday April 23rd, when Currin GFC will commemorate this historic event with an evening of music, discussion, storytelling and song in our local Community Centre in Scotshouse. Our local schoolchildren will team up with local singers, musicians and historians to provide a unique evening’s entertainment surrounding the ‘1916’ rebellion. This is definitely an evening not to be missed. Further details can be had from Marie North, our Cultural Officer.
