Clontibret Camogie Notes

By Majella Boyd Sun 3rd Apr

Registration for all our members, senior and underage, takes place tomorrow (Tues Mar 28) at 7.15pm in the Community Centre. Registration forms will be available for completion and it is important to note that both the parent and player must sign the under-age forms. Registration fees remain as per previous years: Senior members €50, Underage members €30 (which includes €5 registration for a parent). A short presentation in relation to Child Welfare will form part of the meeting and underage fixtures will be available for those who may not yet have them.

County Minors: The county minor team moved one step closer to the National League final when they had a convincing victory over Donegal on Saturday last. Played in atrocious weather conditions, Monaghan showed great character and a steely determination and really snuffed out the Donegal challenge from an early stage, eventually running out comfortable winners on a score-line of 5-7 to 0-2. Congratulations to Hannah McSkeane (Captain), Niamh Kieran (1-1), Sorcha McDonald, Éimear McKenna (1-0), Ríoghnach Duffy (0-1), Emily Madden, Amy Gorman, Sioneen Morgan and Clíodhna Moran who represented the club with pride.

On Sunday, April 3, Monaghan face Tyrone in the Ulster Minor ‘B’ championship at a Monaghan venue (to be confirmed). This opposition, as always, promises to be a stern challenge but hopefully Monaghan will rise to the occasion and continue their run of victories. It has also transpired that due to a backlog of fixtures, the Ulster Minor championship finals, scheduled for April 10, have now been deferred to a later date.

Domestic fixtures: Our seniors travel to Middletown on Wednesday evening for the first round of the Armagh Premier League at 7.00pm. We wish the team well. Then on Tuesday, April 5, our U-16s play Derrymacash in Clontibret. Friday, April 8, sees the camógs from Scoil Mhuire in action in the Cumann na mBunscol blitz in Cloghan at 11.00am. Good luck to all our underage players.

The Kube: Don’t forget, tickets – lots of them! – for The Kube, which will feature, among others, Ned, Marie, Sinead and Emily, are available for purchase from any of our senior players and Committee members. Well worth the €20 to see them ‘strut their stuff’!!!

Training: Training for the various age groups takes place which will feature, among others, Ned, Marie, Sinead and Emily as follows: Seniors: Friday of this week. Beginners/U-12 group: Tuesday at 6.00pm. U-16 panel: Thursday (time to be confirmed). Thanks to Mary for her assistance last Thursday. County minors: Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm (please note the change of time).

Great to see Marie and Aisling back in action coaching the ‘smallies’ last Tuesday. By all accounts they had a full house! A case of ‘absence making the heart grow fond’!!

Finally, congratulations to one of our most helpful ‘Mammies’ – Denise Haughey-Magennis – who gave birth to beautiful Baby Conall, on Thursday last. We wish you, Shane, Leah and Masie much joy, Denise!
