The late Hugh F Mc Mahon
On Thursday morning last news circulated the parish about the passing of one of our own Hugh F Mc Mahon. Hugh F as he was affectionaly known was a member of the famous Mc Mahon family from the townland of Formill where his brother Gene played a starring role in the clubs success of the 1950’s/1960’s & 1970’s.
Hugh F contribution to the clubs success was not initially on the field of play but he played an immense contribution to the club in the role of club administrator with the club. He first came to prominence when he and a number of other local men provided guarantors when the club purchased the new football field at Cooltrimegish  in 1972 the same field which is still in existence today.
He also served as Chairman of the club from the period 1979-1981 this period was a momentous period for the club when the new football field was officially opened in February 1980.  He continued to serve on the club committee at that time and was involved in many fundraising activities such as the Annual Carnival and Monthly Draws the Club ran at that time.
He continued to serve on the Committee for years after and became President  of the Club as well a Trustee of the Club until very recently and always supported the club in anyway especially after the foundation of the Club Lotto where he supported the Draw firstly around Ballybay in the 1990’s and when the Lotto was relocated to Aughnamullen Social Centre he and his good friend Pat Mc Geough were at the lotto draw every Sunday night and it didn’t matter what else was on Hugh F was always present.
He was also helped sell Lotto envelopes around his surrounding areas for many years with the help of his family a job he done for nearly 20 years and this shows the testament the man Hugh F was. In recent years he was inducted into the Clubs Hall of Fame a honour which Hugh F was very proud of and he continued to help the club in any way he could  and the likes of him will be hard to be replaced and will never be forgotten and this year his daughter Edel has continued to follow in the Mc Mahon tradition as a club administrator where she is presently Club Secretary with our Club.
Sincere sympathy is extended to his family his daughters Mary Rose, Cathriona, Briege, Geraldine, Paula &  Edel his brother in law Michael Quinn and their families. May God have mercy on his soul.
