Ciste Nua

The club is launching the Ciste Nua in the coming weeks. The top prize has been changed from €700 to €1000 and will also include 5 x €100 winners. There are also multiple buying options which include Annual tickets, Bi Annually and monthly. The first draw will take place on Sunday 31st Jan.

National Club Draw

The deadline for the National Club Draw is fast approaching – money and tickets (used and unused) should be returned to Treasurer Kevin Keenan as soon as possible.

Co.Monaghan GAA Awards Night 2016

The Co.Monaghan GAA awards night will take place on Friday night Jan 22nd. Darren Hughes will receive his Senior Club Player of the Year award whilst Shane Carey will receive Young Player of the Year. John Heaphey will notably receive a Special Merit Award also on the evening.

Scotstown Presentation Night

Scotstown GAA will hold its senior presentation night on Sat 20th February in the complex. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

Juvenile Presentation

There will be a presentation evening for 2015’s successful U14 boys team and U16 girls team.2014’s U14 boys team will also be presented with their medals. Players will all be notified beforehand. Date has yet to be confirmed but will take place in early February.

Gaelic Life Ulster Club All Stars

Well done to Donal Morgan, Orin Heaphey and Darren Hughes who were selected in the Team of the Year at the Gaelic Life Ulster Club All Stars on Friday evening. Well done to former GAA president Sean McCague who received the Hall of Fame Award.

Membership

Damian Mohan is the new club registrar and is currently taking membership for 2016.  The club is holding a registration night on Friday 26th February so keep that date free in your diary.

Monaghan GAA Coach Education

During February & March, Monaghan Coaching & Games will be once again running a range of Coach Education Courses at Foundation and Level One. Please see as follows for dates and venues for the courses that we will be running.  Foundation Award 26th/ 27th February  Venue: Magheracloone (Football), 4th/ 5th March  Venue: Cloghan (Football & Hurling),  11th/ 12th March  Venue: Ballybay (Football).  Level One – 5th/ 6th February Venue: Cloghan (Child),  12th/ 13th/ 14th February Venue: Cloghan (Youth/ Adult).  If anyone is interested in attending these please contact our coaching officer David on 087-6202242. It is important that our coaching continue to educate themselves on an ongoing basis.

Monaghan GAA Coaching Workshops

Monaghan Coaching & Games in conjunction with Ulster GAA will be running the following workshop – DEFENSIVE/ ATTACKING SYSTEMS AND STRATEGIES Date: Monday 1st February  Time: 7.30pm – 9pm  Venue: Cloghan.

Tydavnet Parish: 1916 Project

A group of 23 took part in the club trip to Dublin last Saturday visiting Croke Park and Glasnevin Cemetery. Thanks to a couple of excellent guides, the group learned more about the home of the GAA, and some of the history of the ground, before visiting Glasnevin Cemetery for a re-enactment of the famous Pearse Oration and a guided tour focusing on the history of the rising. This project has been funded by grant assistance from the Ireland 2016 Community Initiative Fund, the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, and Monaghan County Council.

Congratulations

Well done to Celine Nally who was part of the Our Lady’s, Castleblayney U19 Ladies team which won the Ulster U19 B Title last week defeating St.Mary’s, Magherafelt 4-11 to 1-5.

AIB All Ireland Junior Club Semi Final

Best wishes to Rockcorry in the All Ireland Junior semi final this Sunday Jan 24th when they face Ardnaree Sarsfields  of Mayo in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada,Carrick on Shannon. Throw in at 2pm.

Sympathy

At the January meeting of the Scotstown GAA executive committee held last week, votes of sympathy were passed with the families and friends of the recently deceased including:  Eddie McCrudden, England/Derrycrossan; Jimmy Colton, Emyvale; Terry Carroll, Killycarnan; Teresa Caulfield, Iterera; Jack Cassidy, Drummans/Roslea; and former players Paddy O’Neill, Waterford; Sean Clerkin, Monaghan/Annacalkill; Maurice Holland, Magheracloone/Tydavnet.
