Monaghan share spoils with Cavan

January 13th, 2016

Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Section C

Cavan 0-14 Monaghan 0-14                          13/1/16

Monaghan finished the Dr. McKenna Cup with a hard-earned draw away to Cavan on Wednesday night. Cavan, who top Group C and advance to the semi-finals, held a narrow lead for much of the first half, but the introduction of All-Stars Colin Walshe and Conor McManus helped Monaghan rally after the restart and they drew level three times inside the last ten minutes. A McManus free gave Monaghan a share of the spoils in a game where Jack McCarron top-scored for the visitors with five points.

Malachy O’Rourke made eight changes from the loss to Armagh, with Mark Keogh, Conor Boyle, Karl McQuaid, Karl O’Connell, Shane Carey, Pádraic Keenan, McCarron and debutant Conor McCarthy coming in for Jamie Smith, Niall McKeown, Dónal Courtney, Mark Thornton, Dermot Malone, Owen Duffy, Fergal McGeough and Barry McGinn. Duffy joined McManus and Owen Coyle in contributing a combined total of five points for Monaghan, who now look ahead to the Allianz National Football League Division One opener in Roscommon on January 31.
