Scór na nÓg All Ireland Final – the time is nearly upon the club. This Saturday at 11am our Quiz Team will take part in the All Ireland Final in the INEC Killarney. Good luck to Colm Mc Mahon, Finbarr, Cáit and Aodhán Brennan. Then later on in the afternoon Colm, Finbarr and Cáit will be joined by Conor Quinn and Daniel Tomany as they attempt to win a 3rd All Ireland Instrumental Group Title in 4 years.
Scó Sinsir Co. Final – last Saturday night the 23rd of January in Corcaghan the Sór Sinsir Quiz team came top of the pile. The team of Anthony Brennan, Aidan Doherty, Patrick and Noel Duffy will now represent the County in the All Ireland Final in Killarney on the 2nd of April. Both Thomasina Mc Ginnity in the Solo Singing and Patrick Duffy in the Recitation performed well but were unlucky on the night.
Ballybay Community College – over the past few weeks Ballybay Community College have appeared in County Finals. Last Tuesday 19th January the Senior boys overcame Castleblayney College on a full time scoreline of 2-10 to 1-10. Drumhowan players on the winning panel were Owen Quinn (who secured Man of the Match ). Michéal, Niall, Patrick and Cormac Duffy. They will now take on the Abbey Vocational School this Friday in Garvaghey in the Ulster Quarter Final. Then on Thursday Castleblayney College overcame Ballybay to secure the U14 title. Drumhowan players on the Ballybay team were Daragh Mc Elearney, Patrick Quinn, James Mc Adam, Lorcan Halpin, Shea Treanor and Conor Finnegan. This week the two teams also took on each other in the U16 final.
Congratulations – also to ex player Aoife Mc Bennett who was part of Our Lady’s Secondary School Senior Ladies team who won the Ulster Colleges A title recently when they overcame St. Mary’s Magherafelt 4-11 to 1-5 Aoife managed 2 points at corner forward. Also well done to Lorna Mc Guirk who was selected as part of the U14 Co. Ladies Squads .In the u16 Squads there will be even more representation withl Megan Treanor, Angie Mc Guirk and Megan Millar selected.
Sigerson Cup – yesterday Wednesday 27th January a little bit of history was made when as far as this writer is aware(if you know differently I’m sure I will be told)! Aiden Quinn became the 1st player from Drumhowan to play in the Sigerson Cup when St. Patrick’s Drumcondra took on GMIT in the preliminary round.
Juveniles – Help Needed – With the new season just a matter of weeks away we are asking for more people and parents in the club to come forward and help out with the various teams for 2016. We can’t just leave all the work to a loyal few in order for our children to get active and enjoy themselves and play football. With teams from Under 6 to U18 to be coached , organised and supervised we need more help for the year ahead. Even if you think you don’t know that much about football you can still help out. Below there is a list of dates of Foundation Courses that you can do in order to gain knowledge and help you get started. Coaching Workshop – Monday 1st February Time 7.30-9.30 Venue: Cloghan – Coaching Defensive and Attacking Systems. We would ask our club coaches from U14 upwards to attend if possible.
U12-14 Training will be starting in the coming weeks so get the boots dusted down and the Winter Gear ready.
U10 Indoor Football – Monaghan Coaching and Games are running an Indoor Fun Fives Blitz during February again this year. This commences on Saturday 6th February in the Recreation Centre at 9.30am and runs for 3 Saturdays in a row. All players are asked to get out and active again with your football in preparation for the new season and keep practising those kicking and catching skills.
Park Run – Every Saturday morning at 9.30am there is a 5km walk or run that starts at Hope Castle and goes around Lough Muckno. Start your year in a healthy positive manner and sign up on the Operation Transformation Website. Its free of charge and open to all ages and you can either run or walk depending on your own fitness levels. A number of club members have took part already so no excuses next Saturday morning , up out of bed and get active.
National Club Draw – to those who have returned their tickets many thanks and to those who haven’t yet please do so by this weekend at the very latest! If we sell enough we as a club are in with a chance of winning €5000 nationally and €1000 within the county. So please make one last effort to sell those last few tickets.
Awards Night – last Friday night the 22nd of January in the Hillgrove a few Drumhowan members were honoured. Enda Duffy as part of the 2015 Ulster Championship Winning Squad became the 1st Drumhowan Player to receive an Ulster Senior Championship Medal. David Hurson was honoured as joint Junior Referee of the Year. Finally Gerry Duffy received a presentation for his 5 years service as Ulster Council Delegate for the County Board. Well done to all three men.
Deferred Coverage – to those who cannot make the 1st round of the Allianz League on Sunday in Kiltoom(note change of Venue) please note there will be fully deferred coverage on TG4 from 3.15pm
