AGM:

There was a large crowd in attendance at our Annual General Meeting which took place in the clubhouse last Sunday evening. There were a number of changes on the committee for the coming year. Tony McGorman stepped down as Chairman after nine years at the helm. As Tony stated himself, he always said he would go when there was grass on the new pitch at Ned’s Meadow – he just didn’t think it would take nine years to put it there! Tony has done Trojan work for the club for the last decade and indeed it was a rare occasion that you went to an Aghabog game at any level, that he wasn’t there. For Tony, the role of Chairman was like a full-time job in itself. The fruits of his work can be seen in the fine condition he has left the club with our juvenile teams enjoying great success and the long awaited development at Ned’s Meadow now very much a reality. There was a standing ovation for Tony when he concluded his remarks and this was followed by a glowing tribute from our Treasurer John Connolly who nearly ran out of adjectives to describe the man, although I think peacemaker may have been the most appropriate. Paddy Reilly also stepped down as vice-chairperson on the night. Thanks to Paddy for all his work for the club through the years and we know he will still be to the fore with all club activities.

John, as usual, gave a very thorough account of the club finances with every member receiving a detailed financial summary which accounted for every penny during 2015. Indeed, when one glances at some of the figures involved, it’s clear that being the Treasurer for a rural GAA club is now more akin to running a small business. John’s job has been made all the tougher by the fact that we were undertaking the Ned’s Meadow project at a time of economic downturn. Thankfully, we had a steady hand at the tiller to steer us through those tough times and it was very much the consensus of the meeting that we need to push on with the new field development now. It was agreed that this would involve ALL club members putting their shoulder to the wheel for a major fundraising effort in order to get goalposts, fencing and other necessities installed at the new pitch.

Our Youth Officer James McLeod gave a detailed run down of what had been a very successful year for our underage teams where a number of cups were annexed. He paid tribute to all club mentors

from both Aghabog and Currin throughout the year although he did say that they would always welcome additional help if anybody has an interest in helping out with our underage teams.

Maureen Gavan reflected on the efforts of the club in the various Scor competitions during the year and also in preparing for the 125 concert which was held earlier in the year and which proved so successful. Maureen came out of retirement so to speak for our 125 year and both herself and Noel McCarville deserve enormous credit for the work they put in during the year. As Tony stated, they are great ambassadors for our club.

The election of officers took place and the following officers were elected for 2016:

Chairman: Damien Murphy

Vice-Chair: Eugene Burns

Secretary: Liam Kelly

Asst Secretary: Tony McGorman

Treasurers: John Connolly

Asst Treasurer: Andy Mannering

Congratulations to Damien on his election as Chairman. We wish him well in his new role and have no doubt that he will be a great ambassador for our club. Congratulations and best wishes also to Liam Kelly as Secretary and Eugene Burns as Vice-Chair.
