Ulster Final – Here We Come!

“The Show Must Go On” is a classic song by the British Rock Band Queen and after the bitter disappointment of last weekend’s result the show most definitely goes on because last Sunday (15th November) our senior footballers bounced back with a spirited, passionate and courageous performance to secure a place in the final of the Ulster Junior Club Championship. That’s right folks, the Ulster Junior Club Championship Final! Credit must go to the players and team management for the manner in which they approached and performed last Sunday. A common opinion from the league final (Dr. Ward Cup) was that we lacked leadership and we looked flat but in last Sunday’s semi-final encounter we had fifteen leaders, on the field, as all players stepped up to the plate and pulled out a top-class performance. From the outset the determination and unity in the team was very evident and even watching the pre-match warmup it was plain to see that the lads were ready and up for the task. It would be unfair to single out any individual player because they all demonstrated a high work-rate and delivered a mighty performance and they really showed their true capabilities to seal the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 0-11 Glasdrumman 0-6. The result means that we have qualified for the Ulster Final where we will play the Derry champions Faughanvale on Sunday 29th November (Venue & Time TBC). With only two more weeks of action remaining until the Ulster Final it’s important that everyone continues to keep up the good work at training and remain focused. It’s a fantastic achievement for the team and a momentous day for the club, however, there’s nothing won yet! We have a massive challenge ahead of us and our hunger, our attitude, our intensity and our desire must be right. Faughanvale are a quality side and to beat them we will need to up our performance another notch. Well done lads, this is where we want to be…so keep up the good work.

Thank-You

On behalf of the club I want to say a massive thank-you to all our loyal supporters who made the trip to the Athletic Grounds, Armagh last Sunday. It was simply amazing and great to see and hear you all shout and cheer on the lads. With the Ulster Final just around the corner we have just one more outing this year so it’s important that you continue to show you’re colours with passion & pride. Come on everybody, get in the spirit and fly the club colours proudly as we approach the big day. Erect the bunting, put your flags up in the front garden, decorate your front window, plaster every ESB pole you see around the village, paint your cows, paint your sheep, paint your house, paint anything that you can possibly paint Green & White and show you’re support for the team.

Online Shop

Do you like shopping online? If the answer to that question is ‘yes’, then I have just the thing for you! The club, in conjunction with O’Neills, has set up an online shop, just in time for the Christmas shopping, where you can buy all the latest club gear including jersey’s, polo tops, T-shirts, hoodies, half-zip training tops, jackets, tracksuit pants and lots more. There is an excellent choice and its great quality so please click on the link to visit the online store and make a purchase by adding to cart. https://www.oneills.com/shop-by-team/gaa/ireland/rockcorry-gaa.html

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting will take place on Sunday 13th December in the club rooms at 3.00pm. Nomination forms will be circulated to all club members shortly and should be returned to club secretary Martina McKeown before the required date. The annual general meeting is the most important meeting of the year and ALL club members are invited to attend in order to reflect on the last twelve months and to look ahead for the upcoming year. It is also a time to elect a new management committee and to communicate with our members about how the club is functioning. A major challenge facing the club is that not enough people are getting involved at committee level and the message is loud and clear that we need new faces, we need new blood on board to bring forward new ideas, new energy, new people with fresh thoughts, new workers with different concepts and new members with different viewpoints…BE THAT PERSON AND GET INVOLVED.

Child Protection Course

Monaghan GAA are running two child protection courses in November. One on Wednesday 18th between 7pm to 10pm in Cloghan and the second is on 25th November between 7pm to 10pm. Please note that in 2016 no manager, coach or first aider will be allowed to be involved in any team where there are children under 18 years of age participating unless they have completed their child protection course and have also completed their Garda vetting. Anyone who did their child protection more than four years ago should also have their child protection renewed. Garda vetting forms are available on the Monaghan GAA website. Please contact myself at 086-1041165 or pro.rockcorry.monaghan@gaa.ie if you want to attend the course.

Senior Citizen Sponsored Walk

Are you ready boots…let’s start walkin! Yes folks, it’s that time of year once again when people get on their walking boots to raise money for the popular Senior Citizen’s Christmas Party. The Rockcorry Dartrey Community Alert committee have sponsorship cards now in circulation and I would urge everyone within the parish and surrounding communities to support this event which takes place on Saturday 5th December. If you are interested in joining the walk and would like to help raise some money you can obtain a sponsorship card from Gerry Coyle or Pat McCormick. The walk promises to be a great day for all the family but if anyone who cannot do the walk but would like to make a donation then please get in touch. As they always say….every little helps.
