Emyvale Notes

By Majella Boyd Thu 12th Nov

Packie Treanor: Emyvale GAA Club lost one of its greatest servants with the death of Packie Treanor last week. “Big Packie” as he was affectionately known, was one of best players ever produced by Emyvale. He actually started his playing career with Carrickroe but was then persuaded to play for the parish team in Emyvale. He was part of the team that won the Dr. Ward Cup Competition in 1955 and was the captain of the team that won the Junior Championship in 1959 and last year at our Gala Ball, he proudly paraded the Mc Caldin Shield into the hall. He played a vital role in that 1959 final against Toome and turned in a tremendous display at midfield. His fielding of the ball was impeccable and his lengthy and accurate passing harassed the Toome defence. When he retired from playing, be became a mentor and was a selector with the 1985 Junior Double Winning Team. He was also a great supporter of the club and attended most of Emyvale’s matches over the years with his wife Vera. To his wife and family we extend our sincere sympathy, Packie will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

Sympathy: is also extended to the both the Morrough and Mc Gee Families, on the recent passing of Peter Morrough and Kathleen Mc Gee Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
