Universal Graphics Junior Championship

There is huge excitement building ahead of this weekend’s Universal Graphics junior football league final which takes place at Clontibret and throw-in time is 3pm.It is wonderful to see the village come to life and the whole community is buzzing with enthusiasm and delight. The flags have been erected, the bunting, banners are in place and supporters are planning their weekend around the match and while all this is happening off the field the players must remain focused and concentrate on the task at hand for the final showdown. Sunday’s final against Blackhill is certainly an intriguing match and is billed as the clash between the top two sides of the championship. We know we have a huge task on our hands but if we can play to the level we are capable of then we are in with a chance. Hopefully the weather forecast will be kind so here’s hoping for a good sporting game of football and I want to extend my best wishes to Mickey, Jimmy, Pascal and all the players. Do the best you can lads leave everything out on the pitch, empty the tank as they say and have no regrets. If you do that then hopefully that will be good enough come Sunday evening. Good Luck.

Show Your Colours

Just in case you haven’t heard, can I let you all in on a little secret? We’re in the Junior Football Championship Final which takes place this Sunday 27th September in Clontibret and throw-in time is 3pm. That’s right folks, the Junior Championship Final is just around the corner and it’s time to start painting the village Green & White. Come on everybody, get in the spirit and fly the club colours proudly as we approach the big day.  Erect the bunting, put your flags up in the front garden, decorate your front window, plaster every ESB pole you see around the village, paint your cows, paint your sheep, paint your house, paint anything that you can possibly paint Green & White and show our support for the lads. COME ON ROCK.

Eurotech Junior Football League

Unfortunately, due to circumstances Toome were unable to field a team last Saturday in the Eurotech junior football league and therefore forfeited the points.

Speedy Recovery

On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to extend our best wishes and wish Dean Fay a speedy recovery after he picked up an ankle injury during a recent training session. Unfortunately, with the final only a week away nobody wants to get injured but, sadly, injuries are part and parcel of sport and its hard luck on Dean but we all look forward to seeing him back wearing the Green & White jersey as soon as possible.

Under 8  Go Games Exhibition Match

It looks like that the under 8 footballers will have one final outing this year when they take centre stage at the half-time exhibition match during the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship Final. This will be a great opportunity for the kids to showcase their skills and to entertain the crowd when they play against a selection of kids from the Blackhill club.

Under 10 Go Games Blitz

This Saturday 26th September the under 10 footballers will play their last go games blitz when they travel to Doohamlet.

Congratulations

On behalf of the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to offer my heartiest congratulations to our neighbours Aghabog and the fine performance of the Under 14 girls who secured a great victory today in the championship final. I understand there were a couple of local girls on the panel and well done to everyone on a magnificent achievement.

Killeevan Under 12 Tournament

Our under 12 footballers commenced their defence of the Frank Lynch Memorial Cup last Thursday evening (17th September) when they put on an impressive performance against Killeevan. The game was a lively affair and was very exciting to watch with play end to end and both sets of players deserve credit for displaying enormous amounts of enthusiasm and energy.  I understand that the Killeevan GAA club are running the tournament on a round-robin league basis where each team will play against each other once with the top two teams qualifying for the final showdown.  This method ensures that all teams will get the opportunity to play some extra games and we look forward to watching some more exciting and thrilling games.

Birthday Celebrations
Congratulations and best wishes to Aaron “The Bomber” Clerkin who celebrated his 21st birthday last Saturday. Happy birthday Aaron and all the best in the future.

Badminton Club

We are a small community and I believe it’s important that we acknowledge the efforts of other sporting codes who are trying hard to build a brighter future for their members. The local badminton club will be starting up again on Wednesday 23rd September in St. Mary’s Hall. (Juveniles at 8pm and Adults at 9pm) If you are not yet a member but wish to join a vibrant club then all new budding badminton enthusiasts are very welcome to attend and they will cater for people of all levels of ability from beginners right through to the advanced superstar! One of the founding members, Gerry Coyle, has informed me that you will always be guaranteed a friendly game and there’s also a great social element to the evenings especially for beginners and casual players. So whether you just want a laugh, want to make new friends, get fit, or just want to take up badminton seriously, then pick up a racket, pop down next Wednesday night and have some fun.
