Castleblayney Notes

September 22nd, 2015

Senior Team: The Senior team played Inniskeen last Saturday afternoon, with four minutes to go the Grattans were up by three and looking like they were cruising to two vital points but with the clock ticking down the Faughs retrieved the ball in their own fullback line and moved it swiftly up the field where Damien Hughes got “the Boot” to the ball in a goal line scramble to see the ball hit the back of the net which meant that the game was now all square. On the resulting kick out the ball broke to Ciaran Hanratty who fisted the ball over the bar to put us one up, this score was quickly followed by a Mark Treanor point and the two vital points were sealed when Ciaran Hanratty found the back of the net to leave the Final Score Faughs 3-11 Inniskeen 1-12. Attention now returns to the Senior Championship which sees us play Ballybay in Scotstown next Saturday 26th of September with a throw in time of 3pm. Can we ask all supporters to travel and cheer on the lads.

Girls U8 & U10: Our young Girls teams travelled to Scotstown last Saturday morning to play in a blitz organised by the Scotstown Club. First up were the U8’s – Playing Killeevan, Scotstown and Carrick. The girls showed their skill, effort and commitment during the games and it obvious how hard they have worked in training over the past season. The girls worked tirelessly throughout their games, displaying some excellent attacking, defending and score taking. Team: Annie Carroll, Bethany Boyd, Emma Casey, Lauryn Hughes, Aimee Hughes, Eimear Bolger, Ella Marie Bishop and Ionela Lungu. Great to see the improvement in skills and as they get to know each other more they will gel to be a very good team. The U10’s played 5 games against Truagh, Carrick and Scotstown. The girls put in an excellent performance in all their games, their work rate and skilful attacking play display showed these young ladies are ones to watch for the future. Team: Nicole Casey, Tori McGeough, Aoibhe Bolger, Kaitlin Boyd, Edel Murphy, Ellie Comiskey, Lucy Lawson-Smith, Austra, Hazel Hughes, Caoimhe Agnew. This team shows great promise for the future with the older girls who feature with the u12s showing leadership and a great work rate. Well done to the management team of Pauline, Catriona, Amanda, John and Dympna for they work and effort with these young ladies over the season. Our thanks to the Scotstown club for hosting the games, providing referees and refreshments for the girls afterwards. A very enjoyable morning was had by all in attendance. Thanks also for the team mentors and the parents for their continued efforts and support.

Boys U10: Boys have taken a break from training but will have a blitz in Drumhowan on Saturday 3rd of October; more details will follow next week, so boys keep practicing those skills outside.

Girls U12: The girls under 12 final will take place on Saturday 10th of October with a venue yet to be confirmed, training will continue this week.

Boys U11: The Boys played in the prestigious BC Tournament in Emyvale last Saturday, they drew their first game against Rock from Tyrone before going onto beat Rosslea and Eglish to advance to the quarterfinal where they beat Magheracloone, they were beaten by the eventual winners Monaghan Harps in the Semi Final, this now pulls down the curtain on the U12 season, well done to all the players and coaches who have worked very hard at seeing their progress continue over the last twelve months.

Boys U14: The Boys were beaten last Wednesday evening in the Final of the Mason Cup by a better Carrick team on the night, the lead up the game had been hampered with injury and sickness, with our touch been slightly off right throughout the match, a few missed opportunities at crucial times proved to be the difference as Carrick ran our winners on a score line of Carrick 2-9 Faughs 0-7. Well done to all our players and coaches on what has been a memorable year, winning the Under 14 Championship and getting to Feile was a great success, getting to the final of the Mason Cup was also a great achievement with some great team displays throughout the year.

Minor Girls: The Girls had another good victory on Sunday morning when they travelled to Killeevan, the Sarsfield ladies opened well and mid-way through the first half led by seven points but a couple of goals from Orla Maguire saw the Faughs ladies pull level by half time. The second half started with another Faughs goal followed quickly by another point which saw the Girls open a four point gap which they maintained throughout the second half, Final Score Killeevan 4-9 Faughs 5-10. Well done to everyone concerned, the win has secured us a semi-final; we will update everyone on the next fixtures once we receive them from the County Board Fixture Committee.

Operation TransFAUGHSmation: Week two is now completed, with circuits and boot camp proving a great success, last Saturday morning saw a large crowd head over to Carlingford for the Hike up the mountain, while Sunday saw the first of the Field based sessions. The schedule for this week will be circuits on Tuesday in Castleblayney Health & Wellness Centre, Boot camp in the football field at 6.30pm with the Walk /Run /Cycle taking place in the football field on Sunday at 11am.
