Rockcorry Notes

August 6th, 2015

Good Luck Monaghan

Get your hats, flags, scarves and headbands ready and anything else that is white & blue because this is your moment to show your colours and support your county because the All Ireland Quarter Final between Monaghan v Tyrone takes place this Saturday 8th August at 4pm in Croke Park. Come on folks, show your passion and get behind the lads to drive them forward and drive them to victory over our neighbours, Tyrone. On behalf of everyone from the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our best wishes and good luck to the team and the team management in their attempts to progress to the next round of the competition. I would urge all our club members and fans to travel to the game, if possible, and get behind the players who did the county so proud just a couple of weeks ago at the Ulster Final. Lads you have the ability and the strength to do it, so there’s really only one more thing left to say or indeed roar….COME ON MONAGHAN.

Eurotech Junior Football League

The senior footballers are in action on Sunday 9th August when they travel back to St. Mary’s Park to play Scotstown after the last match was abandoned due to a thunder and lightning storm. The game has a throw-in time of 2pm. Good luck lads.

Annual Golf Classic 2015

Our upcoming golf classic takes place on Saturday 22nd August at the beautiful Clones Golf Club. The club is delighted to announce that Aidan & Marie Murray of Mullinahinch House Private Nursing Home have come on board, once again, as our main sponsors and we sincerely thank them for their generosity, kindness and support. The cost to enter a team is €120.00 and to book your place please contact our chairman Michael Carroll 086-1041165, club secretary Martina McKeown 086-1509735 or Paddy McKeown and a member on the organising committee will be in touch to discuss a convenient time for you to play.

Sports Day

Just a reminder that the club will be hosting a sports day on Sunday 6th September. The organising committee are flat out making arrangements and while details are limited at this early stage I imagine there will be all the usual events including races, the classic egg & spoon race, sumo races (large inflatable suits…especially for the parents) three legged races, show your strength by throwing the wellie, test your skill at penalties or golfing, have you the speed to take on the clothes line challenge. Our imagination no knows bounds and whatever ever games you may enjoy I’m sure we will have something that suit your interests. Should you have any ideas or suggestions then please don’t be shy and get in touch with Tom Daly, Anthony Tate or any committee member and they will be delighted to talk to you. So let’s join together on Sunday 6th September and let’s create a fantastic sports day that everyone within our community and surrounding parishes can join in and have some with family and friends.

The under 8 footballers will be back in action on Saturday 29th August when they travel to Clones to take part in an all-county go games blitz between 9.30am to 11.30am. On Saturday 22nd August the under 10 footballers will be back in action when they travel to Clones 9.30am to 11.30am

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Shield Semi-Final

Our under 12 footballers have been pitted against Ballybay in the Gerrys Prepared Veg Under 12 Division 4 Shield Semi Final. It takes place on Saturday 15th August at 12 noon. The winners will progress to the final on Saturday 29th August and the opposition will be either Aughnamullen, Eire Og or Oram.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14 League

Last Saturday, 1st August, our under 14 footballers played host to Patrick Emetts in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league campaign. We started the brighter team and midway through the opening half we enjoyed a 0-5 to 0-2 lead. However, Patrick Emetts soon found their shooting boots and were the dominant force for the remaining minutes of the half and held a five point advantage at the break leading 0-6 to 1-8. When play resumed in the second half the exchanges were fairly even with both sides notching over some impressive scores. The lads gave a good account of themselves and tried very hard to close the deficit but unfortunately a lot of scoring opportunities that came their way went a begging. Patrick Emetts, on the other hand, were a lot more clinical in front of the posts and fired over some nice scores to seal the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 0-11 Patrick Emetts 2-14. Please visit our Facebook page to view a selection of action photographs. They are back in action on Thursday 13th August with a home game against Doohamet and throw-in time is 7.30pm.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg  – Under 16 League

Our under 16 footballers played Patrick Emetts last Thursday 30th July in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 4 League campaign and while the lads played well and tried exceptionally hard it was sadly another tough night for the team as they endured a heavy defeat against a strong Patrick Emetts side who cruised to a comfortable victory.

Minor Football League Division 3 Shield

The minor footballers are back in action on Tuesday 11th August when they travel to play Tyholland and throw-in time is 7.30pm.
