Toome Notes

July 15th, 2015

Seniors: The sages said that we’d be up against it, and that’s putting it mildly! But as they often do, the Toome Senior team dug in and produced when the odds were very much against us in our championship encounter v Seans last Sunday evening. With Colm and Damien’s words ringing in their ears, the lads started at a blistering pace, with points from Stephen McCooey 1 along with Gary, Gavin (2) and captain Mattie putting us 5-1 ahead after 20 minutes. The tide seemed to turn against us however when Stephen got sent off for a second yellow card with 18 gone, and Seans brought the score back to 5-4 in the next few minutes, leaving things looking ominous. 2 quickfire points from Colin Wilson and another from Gavin settled us down however, leaving it HT: Toome 0-8 Seans 0-5.
2 good points from Liam extended our lead, which Seans pegged back, then the sides swapped further points, ours from Gavin to leave it 11-8 with 12 to go. Seans were in all out attack mode at this stage, and a morale boosting score from young Frank Connolly relieved the pressure before a free from Gavin extended the lead to 13-8. A further free from Frank left us 5 up with 5 minutes to go, but even at that stage nothing seemed certain as the Seans pressure was relentless. Our defence held firm, and a brilliant interception from Ryan Murphy turned possession over, we attacked at pace and Frank Connolly finished superbly to the Seans net to leave it 1-14 to 10 at the finish. We go forward to meet our old friends from Oram on the weekend of 24th-26th July, we are in league action this Saturday evening, away to Killeevan at 7:30pm.
