Drumhowan Notes

Monaghan Electrical IFL – Over the past week Drumhowan took on Currin and Corduff. Last Wednesday night the 22nd of April Currin were the visitors to Mc Keown Park. David Millar opened the play with 3 unanswered points with  Currin’s 1st score not coming until the last 5 minutes of the 1st half. The half time score was Drumhowan 0 – 8 Currin 0 – 2.  Currin opened the 2nd half strongly with an unanswered 1 – 2 in the 1st 7 minutes. That was as good as it got for the visitors  with sub Owen Quinn and Aidan Duffy scoring 2 goals midway during the second half to end the game as a contest. The game finished on the scoreline Drumhowan 2-15(21) Currin 2 – 6 (12) The team and scorers were as follows Enda Duffy, Paddy Mulligan, Ciarán Duffy, Barry Mc Guirk, Darren Duffy, Liam Mc Guirk,Niall Mooney 0-1, John Paul O’ Neill, Dermot Mooney, Colm Lambe 0 – 4 (3f), Aidan Duffy 1-3, Kevin Mooney 0 – 2,  Kieran Mooney 0 – 1, David Millar 0 – 3, Paul Mc Guirk 0 – 1 Subs  used Owen Quinn 1-0, Ronan Duffy.

Then last Sunday the  26th of April we made the journey to the Cavan border to take on the locals Corduff. Corduff got off  to a flying start and after  20 minutes were ahead by 1- 5 to 0-2 with Drumhowan’s 2 points coming from Kieran Mooney and Colm Lambe.  However after a 2nd goal in 2 games from sub Owen Quinn and a 1st half injury time point from midfielder JP O’ Neill  meant the  two teams entered the half time period level at 1-6 a piece. The 2nd half started well as Drumhowan scored 2 unanswered points. That was as good as it got with  Drumhowan only scoring a further 2 points in the final 25 minutes while Corduff hit 8 in the same period. Team and Scorers were Enda Duffy, Paddy Mulligan, Ciarán Duffy, Barry Mc Guirk, Niall Mooney, Liam Mc Guirk, Darren Duffy, John Paul O’Neill 0-1, Dermot Mooney, Ronan Duffy 0-1, Kevin Mooney 0 -1 , Colm Lambe 0-3(2f), David Millar 0-2 , Paul Mc Guirk. Kieran Mooney 0 -2  Subs used Owen Quinn 1-0 for Paul Mc Guirk and Michael Atkinson for Ronan Duffy 

The next game in the campaign is scheduled for this Saturday 2nd May when near neighbours Aughnamullen are the opposition at Mc Keown Park. Throw in time is at the earlier time of 4pm


Platinum Tanks RFL Div 2A – The reserves took on Sean Mc Dermotts last night Wednesday the 29th of April  at Páirc Mhic Eoin. Please check social media for a result. Then next Wednesday the 6th of May we make the short journey to O’ Neill Park where we take on the locals Doohamlet with a throw in time of 7.45pm


Minor League Division 1 – The Minors took on Monaghan Harps last Tuesday the 28th of April in Drumhowan. Please check  social media for a result. Next Tuesday the 5th of Maythey take on table toppers Donaghmoyne in the south Monaghan venue  with a 7.30pmthrow in.


Gerry’s Prepared Veg U16 Div 1 – Last  Thursday in Pearse Park the U16s suffered a further defeat  this time to the hands of Truagh on a full time score of St. Patrick’s 2 – 10 Truagh 2-18. Tonight Thursday the 30th of April Aughnamullen are the opposition away from home with a 7pm throw in. 


Gerry’s Prepared Veg Under 12 Spring League Finals. We play Cremartin in Cloghan on this Saturday at 11am. All players should be in Cloghan for 10-15am.  Again we ask for good support for the boys and girls. Please note there is admission charge of €5. Also on Saturday at Cloghan if you buy your tickets for the USFC game v Cavan you have a chance of winning 4 O Neills Footballs for the Club.

Under 10 – We had an exciting challenge game against the Clontibret, Cremartin and Doohamlet Parish Community games team on Thursday evening last. Both teams were very well matched and the game which  was played over three periods had some excellent passages of play. Thanks also to Patrick Duffy who refereed the game. 

Under 8 – We travelled to Cremartin on Friday evening last to play the locals. We had two games going at the same time meaning everyone was playing all the time. Both sides played some excellent football and this age group continues to improve with each outing. Thanks to Cremartin for two very sporting games. Remember you must keep practicing your skills each day at home. We hope to have another game for this team on Saturday 9th May.

Juvenile Training next week is on Tuesday night at 7pm because of the Bank Holiday for all teams from Under 6 to Under 14. 

Topaz Cash for Clubs – Drumhowan as you all know are registered for this initiative. Our registration number is 11137. When you fill up at any Topaz station please ask for a card that will be stamped every time you receive €40 worth of fuel. We have to the 10th of May to collect 300 cards. In this last week get your families and friends involved. Keep collecting cards and when you have a few filled please return them to Topaz , Blayney or to PRO Noel. Closing date is the 10th of May.​
