Clones Notes

April 29th, 2015

There was a great turnout at the Executive meeting last Thursday night with a packed agenda.  One important item for discussion was the renaming of the playground on Cara St. to the Seamus McCabe Park.  Memorabilia is sought for a display in the courthouse on the opening night Thursday 23rd July, posters, pictures and stories that can be shared with the public.  A plaque in his honour where once the ball alleys stood was the club’s recommendation, who knows it may encourage some of our members to take up the sport; down the road we may have another Seamus McCabe.  This great Clone deserves this accolade and his own little piece of immortality.  He was the king of the alley.  Please contact PRO or secretary if you’ve anything to share.

Seniors: More disappointment for the seniors with no points gained in their two most recent games.  A spirited performance in Emyvale on Wednesday evening saw us go down by a single point.  In an exciting game of football our decision making at times surely cost us at least at a draw, Emyvale played well with only fourteen men for most of the game, in the end though the FT score Emyvale 1-16 Clones 3-09.   Another away game on Sunday in Aughnamullen, this was a game where the home team were dominant from the first whistle to the last.    We were restricted with a lot injuries.  Spring is a time for re birth and growth and like the phoenix from the flames we will have to lift ourselves big time for our next encounter which is at home to Cremartin on Saturday the 8th May.  We’ve only one win from five with two defeats by the narrowest of margins, we’re hopefully not that faraway, come out and support the lads as they bid to climb the league table.

Reserves: have got of to a flying start this year with three wins from four leaving them at the top of the league.  Their next game is at home to Aghabog on Sunday week, throw-in at 3pm.

Minors:  lost to Cremartin last week and had the tough assignment of playing table toppers Toome on Tuesday.  Next Tuesday they play Inniskeen away with a 7:30 throw-in.  It’s been a disappointing league for us and with some more game time under us we’re hopeful of a wee run in the championship which will take place after the Leaving Cert.

U16’s: followed up last weeks away win to Latton with another away win to Doohamlet.  They play Killanny at home this evening with a 7pm throw in.  Come out and support the lads there’s some great talent on the team.  Monaghan County Board are proposing on organising 2 U16 Super Touch Blitzes on Thursday the 4th and Thursday the 11th of June. As you might notice these take place during the Exam Break. What we are proposing is that these blitzes cater for players who are NOT doing the Junior Cert.  Speak with Declan if you’re interested in this.

U14’s: have got off to a good start too, their next game is at home to Cremartin next Thursday the 7th throw-in at 7:30.  Come out and support the lads there’s some great talent on the team.  Club Trials for the U14’s skill test takes place tomorrow Friday 1st of May, players who are selected will go on to select the club at county level.

U12’s: Gerry’s prepared Veg Spring League finals take place on Saturday in Cloghan where we will play Toome.  Best of luck guys and most importantly have fun.

Juveniles: Due to the Senior team having games for the next few Wednesday’s we are moving training for the U-6 to U-10 to Saturday afternoon 12-1pm. No Blitz this week.

The Darkness into Light Walk in aid of Pieta House will take place on Saturday 9th May 2015 @ 4.15am.  The walk will start and finish at Monaghan Harps GAA Grounds (Gavan Duffy Park). Please support this good cause.
