Clones Notes

April 3rd, 2015

Huge well done to Fintan Kelly and the Monaghan County team on their huge victory away to All Ireland Champions Kerry.  A fantastic fully deserved result that epitomizes the journey the team has made in Division1.  Fintan celebrated his birthday on Sunday and as his Uncle Harry put it “the best presents are the ones you go and get yourself”.  Next up is their final game against last years League Champions Dublin on Sunday in Clones.  A big crowd is expected and the club will need as many volunteers as possible to cover all the usual bases, programs, shops, stewards etc.  contact Kevin as early as possible.
Happy Easter to all our members.  Welcome to everyone visiting home over the holidays and safe journey to everyone traveling particularly on the roads, don’t forget to show you’re support in St.Tiarnachs park on Easter Sunday at 3pm

Get Well Soon: to minor Caoilan Mc Donald who sustained a broken collar bone at training last week.  A gifted speedy footballer who’s been a precocious talent from his early days as a juvenile we wish him a fast recovery and enjoy you’re Easter Eggs but not too much.  Plenty of milk to strengthen you’re bones.

The Monaghan minors had another luckless week in the league against Armagh in St.Tiarnachs Park on Sunday.  Clones players Fabian Beggan, Eoin McQuaid, Ryan Rooney and James Mealiff who scored a point from play were involved with the team. Last round of the league is on Saturday against Cavan in Kingscourt.

Seniors: training continues apace and there are great numbers turning out at training.  Their next game is against Doohamlet on Sunday week at 3pm

Minors: On the club front our minors had their first game of the season against Aughnamullen on Tuesday report next week.

U16’s first round league game is a home tie against Emyvale on Thursday 9th April, training continues on Thursdays from 7-8:30pm.

U14’s also train on Wednesdays and played Sean McDermotts on Saturday with another good win, there’s a break until Saturday 23rd of May until their next game at home to Monaghan Harps with a 12pm throw-in.  You’re support and attendance would be really appreciated.

U12’s continue their training on Wednesdays in the Peace Link from 7-8pm.  They play Clontibret O’Neills away this Saturday.

Monaghan GAA Easter Camp takes place this year on April 7th, 8th and 9th from 10am to 2:30pm everyday.  €40 for first child and €35 for 2nd and 3rd child per family.  Applications are sought online to avoid unnecessary delays on the first morning, email developmentmanager.monaghan@gaa.ieor contact Joanne Reihill.

Congratulations to former Clones great Mark Connolly who picked up the coveted Kilmarnock Player of the Year award.  Well done Mark who of course learned and honed his skills with us in St.Tiarnachs where he still has many friends and family.

Congratulations to Denise Toner who won Gold in the European Masters Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland A member of Clones Athletics club and is trained by our own member Paul O’Neill Denise trains at the Peace Link Facility in Clones and it’s simply brilliant to have European Champion training with our members.  If we could get her to start soloing the ball we could be onto something big.
