Reserve League 2B

Our B Team had their first home game of the campaign last weekend against Rockcorry. It was a very impressive performance with a runaway win of 2-12 to 0-2. The players were in top form and with our boxers for WCB making up a good number of the starting fifteen which added to the resounding victory. Even our veteran players showed that they haven’t lost it , especially in the goalkeeping department.

Minors:

Our minor team travelled to St. Pats last Saturday morning for the second round game of the league. This was tough encounter with some very notable scores. Unfortunately they were defeated by the slimmest of margins, 3-11 to 3-10.

U-14’s

The under 14’s played their round one game of the spring league at home to Castleblayney. This proved to a total goal fest as the home team rattled the net 12 times. They were comprehensive winners by 12-10 to 4-7.

‘WCB’   Boxing Fundraiser

Our big fundraiser finally came to the complex last Saturday night, and what a night it proved to be. To a capacity crowd, our boxing contenders put on show like no other. We must commend them on their dedication to training for the last nine weeks. They left absolutely nothing in the dressing room on the night and entertained the crowd for almost three hours. The bouts had all the thrills and excitement we have come to expect from the players over the time in their training camp. A special word of thanks to Fergal Mc Kenna and Fergal Treanor who prepared the fighters in the Old School Boxing Club. They were on hand on the night with Fergal Treanor taking on the role as referee and Fergal Mc Kenna sitting in the wings giving advice and direction. Our judges on the night, Hughie McElvaney, Danny Clerkin and Michael Mc Mahon done an excellent job in deciding on the competitive bouts. Our MC on the night, Sean Mc Caffery done an excellent job in

the build up to each fight and keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats. This fundraiser brought together some superb organising skills of the committee , players and boxers alike. The strategiesof selling tickets, acquiring sponsorship and delivering an event which was second to none has to be acknowledged. All the hard work has paid off as the Sean Mac Diarmada club hosted an incredible night which will be remembered for a long a time. We must thank all our sponsors andthe people who supported us buying tickets and paying on the night. Without their generosity the success of this fundraising event would not have been possible.
