Rockcorry Notes

February 10th, 2015

Registration Night
Our club registration night was held last Saturday 7th February in St. Mary’s Hall and first of all many thanks to all the parents and kids who attended and signed the necessary membership forms and other policy documents. If you were not able to attend can you please familiarise yourself with our Membership Forms, Code of Best Practice, ASAP Policy etc which can all be viewed or downloaded on our official website www.rockcorrygaa.ie. When you have read and fully understood these documents please sign the declaration form and return it along with the juvenile membership form accompanied with the €5 fee per child to our youth officer Tracey Rooney.

Well Done
I would like to extend a massive well done to Conor Clerkin, Gerry Larmer, Ryan Carroll, Kevin McPhillips & Christopher Donnelly who were selected to play during the half-time exhibition match at the Monaghan v Cork Allianz National Football League last Sunday 8th February. I hope you all had a great day and hopefully it will only be the start of more appearances in the county colours. Well done lads.

Parish Concert
Last year’s Parish Variety Concert turned out to be wildly successful and undoubtedly was an incredible night’s entertainment which we all enjoyed. It was absolutely an amazing evening where we were blown away with some amazing singing, dancing and acting. It is a bit of a no-brainer that arrangements are being made to hold another magical night again this year where we can once again relish and enjoy the fantastic talent that is available within our small Parish. This year’s Parish Variety Concert which will take place on Friday 15th March and we want to put on another memorable show so please do not let the side down. The concert is open to everyone and anyone who is willing to take part in the concert so please get in touch.

Challenge Game
Our senior team had their first taste of action last Sunday morning when they travelled to play Middletown in a friendly challenge game. While we were missing a number of regular faces it was great to see so many young lads and some mature players out, particularly on a brisk and chilly Sunday morning! On behalf of the club, I would like to thank the Middletown GAA club for hosting the game and for providing after match refreshments with a lovely bowl of warm soup and sandwiches which certainly went down a treat.

Under 10 Winter League
It’s only the beginning of February but members of our under 10 team had their first outing of the year when they travelled to Ballybay Community Centre, last Saturday 7th February, to take part in the Winter Indoor Football League Programme organised by Monaghan Coaching & Games Development. The game, called Total Indoor Gaelic, consisted of 5 aside and matches were a maximum of two minutes with the winning side remaining on to take on the next team. It was hectic stuff, at times, as competing teams from Ballybay, Castleblayney, Drumhowan, Doohamlet & Oram showed plenty of enthusiasm and brought loads of energy to each match. This was a great opportunity for the young players to show their talents in a fun and inspiring environment. It also helps them to get back into the swing of things after hibernating over the winter months. The league continues next Saturday 14th February and I would urge parents of kids involved to go along to support and encourage the kids. Well done everyone.

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble
Christopher “Rocky” Greenan is currently training to take part in an upcoming Fight Night which is being organised by Ballybay GAA. He was recently spotted chasing chickens around the yard in order to build up speed in preparation for his contest! It all takes place in the Four Season’s Hotel, Monaghan on Saturday 21st February with the first bout starting at 7.30pm. On behalf of the club I would like to wish him all the best in his bout and hope that he has a good and safe fight and hopefully he does not get too many square punches on the nose!!!
