Under 16:

Aughnamullen do it again
2014 The year for Our Juveniles:
Aughnamullen make history again this week as our victorious U16 team make it the “Double” Proudly led by their Mentors Colm Reyburn & Patrick Geoghegan who worked extremely hard in the absence of Owen Bannigan RIP to lead their boys in blue into what proved to be a very competitive League Final against a very brave Carrickmacross side. Our captain Michael Bannigan and his team had done their homework extremely well as they got of to a great start as Micheal Bannigan scored his 1st point from throw up in the 1st 5 seconds of the game. Followed very quickly with Darren Geoghegan scoring a point from Carrickmacross 1st kick out, also quickly followed by 2 goals from Micheal Bannigan and Darren Geoghegan and points from Tiernan Duffy. Ryan Bannigan got his name on the scoreboard, as he showed his skills in taking a point from a very awkward angle in the field. Our back line also proved to be key in this game, as scores came from the great defence of Packie Marron and Callum Blanche who passed the ball to our talented forwards and a continuous pattern of scores kept us ahead in the game. Carrickmacross came back at us and levelled the scores leaving us a very tense second half. Our boys showed true character and determination as the great defense of Thomas Marron, Aaron McGee, Kieran Duffy and Oisin Hamill proved vital. The second half started of with Aughnamullen having a 4 point lead, but this was short lived as Carrickmacross bounced back to draw the game with less than 15 minutes remaining, but Aughnamullen’s hunger and determination proved successful as the help of Shane Forde and Kieran Marron showed great commitment and strength on the field. Showing their true colours, Aughnamullen made use of the remaining 5 minutes when Stephen McGee scored a goal followed by two magnificent points by Tieran Duffy. A disciplined display of teamwork alongside some magnificent scores proved to be the key in winning the game. We would also like to wish Stephen Geoghegan captain of last week’s winning team a very speedy recovery, for showing extreme courage when he continued to play an expectional game after sustaining a broken hand in the previous weeks final. Team and scores Thomas Marron, Kieran Duffy, Aaron Mc Gee, Oisin Hamill, Callum Blanche, Packie Marron, Shane Forde, Michael Bannigan Captain (3-4), Ryan Bannigan (0-1) Kieran Marron, Stephen Mc Gee (1-1) Darren Geoghegan (1-5) Tiernan Duffy (0-5). Subs Stephen Geoghegan, Aaron Bannigan, Ryan Connolly, Conghal Treanor, Dean Johnston, Jack Bannigan, Patrick Mc Enaeney,Joel Wilson & Mark Teanor.
