U-12: Our Under-12 Division 1A ended our five-year wait to win the Coyle Cup with a hard-earned 0-9 to 1-4 win over Emyvale in Castleblayney last Saturday, completing a brilliant double for our two U-12 teams. Emyvale made the brighter start with a first-minute goal, but a brace of points from Terence McDonald settled our lads into the game. A well-taken ’45 into the wind by Eoghan McGinnity was our only other score of the first period, but we trailed by just 1-2 to 0-3 at the change of ends. Despite Joshua Clerkin hitting the first point of the second half, we conceded two more points to Emyvale, but from then on, we managed five unanswered scores. Terence got the first of those, while Eoghan hit three in a row (two from ‘45s), before Adam McGarry (who also had a cracking goal disallowed) rattled the last score over, via the crossbar. In a game that was closely-contested throughout, it took a real team performance to win this one. Daragh Croarkin was assured in goals, with James McKenny and Liam Conway outstanding in a dominant full-back line. Dean Doherty and Nathan Lavery showed great determination and spirit at half-back, as did Tiarnán O’Rourke and Joshua Clerkin in a hard-fought midfield battle. Eoghan McGinnity grew into the game the more it went on, taking control in the closing stages, with Josh Maguire battling through the pain of a shoulder injury to give his all. Dylan Ballantine was well-marshalled but was still able to contribute to a number of scores, with Terence McDonald a constant threat to the Emyvale defence and Adam McGarry once again making a terrific impact off the bench. Our subs all got a run in the middle period, which saw Brian McAteer, Jamie Coyle and Craig Cooney get on the scoresheet. We were delighted that the team were allowed to parade the Coyle Cup on the pitch at half-time of our SFC game in Scotstown on Saturday evening. Thanks on behalf of the management of Jimmy Croarkin, Pádraig Callan and Colm Shalvey to the players and parents for their efforts all year and to Jim McConnon for providing food for after the final.

Team and scorers: Daragh Croarkin; James McKenny, Liam Conway (Joint Capt.); Dean Doherty (Joint Capt.), Nathan Lavery; Tiarnán O’Rourke, Joshua Clerkin (0-1); Eoghan McGinnity (0-4, 3 ‘45s), Josh Maguire; Terence McDonald (0-3, 1f), Dylan Ballantine.

Seniors: Our senior footballers exited the championship with a 2-11 to 1-13 defeat against Truagh last Saturday in Scotstown. We conceded an early goal, but points by Shane Smyth, Ashley White (free) and Shane Coyle got us up and running, before Dónal Hahessy converted a brace of frees. A Nicholas Treanor free, two points from play by Shane and a goal from substitute Fearghal McMahon had us ahead by 1-8 to 1-6, having played against the wind in the first half, but we played second fiddle for most of the second 30 minutes. Points by Fearghal, Dónal, Conor Galligan and two from substitute Gary White were all we could manage to add to our tally and a goal 12 minutes from time proved enough for Truagh to advance by the narrowest of margins. Our next scheduled league game is against Doohamlet on September 20.

Team and scorers: Ashley White (0-1f); Kevin Loughran, David Hughes, Niall Hahessy; Liam Hahessy, Conor Galligan (Capt., 0-1), Shane Coyle (0-1); Stephen Driver, Nicholas Scott; Dónal Hahessy (0-3f), Shane Smyth (0-3), Emmett McArdle; John Mulligan, Dean Fanning, Nicholas Treanor (0-1f).

Subs:Fearghal McMahon (1-1) for Fanning (23 mins), Gary White (0-2) for McArdle (37), Peter Coyle for N Treanor (51), Niall Treanor for L Hahessy (inj., 53), Éimhín Morahan for Mulligan (56).

U-16: Our Under-16 footballers had a good win over Donaghmoyne in their championship semi-final last Thursday evening. With Remy McKenna and Aidan Burns on top at midfield, our lads hit three goals in the first half to open up a good lead and they never looked like being caught from there, with a fifth goal from Dylan Duffy and a couple of points by substitute Conor Duffy sealing a 5-13 to 2-9 win. The lads also have home advantage in their league semi-final against Truagh this evening (Thursday) at 6.30pm and they will face the same opposition in the championship final, scheduled for Saturday week, September 13. All support welcome.

Subs used: Paul Peppard, Conor Duffy, James Bourke, Zach Mallen.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division One team lost away to Truagh last week, but they turned the tables in the shield semi-final on Tuesday evening. Goals by Lochlainn Power and Conor McCrystal and points by Oisín Fagan (two) and Annan Connor gave the Harps a 2-3 to 0-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and Conor added 1-1 before half-time, along with a Corey McArdle goal and an Adam O’Neill point. Majors from Conor and Luke Coyle, either side of a point from Adam, made it 6-6 to 2-12 by the end of the third quarter and although Truagh rallied in the final period, points from Conor and Oisín guided our lads into the shield final against Scotstown, which is due to be played in Tyholland on Saturday at 1.15pm.

Team and scorers: Dylan Ballantine; Seán Conway, Andrew Lyden; Killian Conlon, Annan Connor (0-1f), David Leanne; Colin Peppard, Adam O’Neill (0-2); Lorcan O’Rourke, Conor McCrystal (3-2), Oisín Fagan (Capt., 0-3); Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Lochlainn Power (1-0).

Subs used: Corey McArdle (1-0), Stephen Ward, Conor McCarron, Luke Coyle (1-0), Eoghan McGinnity.
