Senior League

Ballybay were the visitors to Inniskeen on Saturday last in the league. The game got off to a lively start with Magheracloone scoring 3 points in the first seven minutes, two Tommy Freeman Frees & a point for Niall Babington from play. After this blistering start the game continued as a well contested affair with scores from both teams. With some great displays of ball work from Damien Freeman, a further two points from Tommy & one point each from Paudie Kirk, Paudie Finnegan Gavin Doogan & Niall Babington made sure that the Mitchells finished the first half ahead by four points 0-9 to 0-5. The second half got underway with a great goal chance for Ballybay & David Kirk pulling off a fantastic save. Disaster struck when in the seventh minute a black card was shown to Johnny Coleman, he was replaced by Noel Tuite. Magheracloone held their own with some great defending from Michael Jones, Paul Mc Ardle and Pete Ward. The Mitchells didn’t trouble the scoreboard in the second half, only managing to score one point again from Tommy Freeman.  In the 50th minute Ballybay levelled the game causing temperatures to sore a little resulting in another black card this time for Paudie Kirk who was having a great game at left half forward. Brian Morris took his place on the field. With just four minutes remaining Ballybay quickly closed the deficit & went ahead for the first time in the match, despite great effort & endeavour shown by all participants so it remained & we were very unlucky to not at least share the points. Final score Magheracloone 0-10 Ballybay 0-11.

Senior Championship

The championship resumes on Saturday 23rd when we meet Latton in the first round of the Championship, this promises to be a highly competitive match. Best of luck to all the panel and management. Please come out in big numbers to cheer them on to victory. Venue: Clontibret at 5:00pm.

Under-21 Final

Magheracloone lost out to Scotstown by a just one score in the division one final on Monday last. This rip-roaring U21 final certainly went down to the wire. The game was tight throughout with Magheracloone leading 1:5 to 1:6 at half time. Scotstown to their credit managed to fight their way back as the game turned into the final straight & there they stayed. It could be said that the gallant Mitchells had the chance to steal the game, we were in a position to win & certainly had the chance to at least earn another run at it, but the record books never lie the only score that matters is the one on the board when the referee blows the final whistle. Our players gave their honest best but in the end the Mitchells were left frustrated with the score reading Scotstown 1-12 Magheracloone 1-9

Team & Scorers: Mitchell Tuite, James Carolan, Paul Mc Ardle, Sean Finnegan, Cian Freeman, Jamie Kieran, James Lambe, Ciaran Mc Clory 0-1, Daniel Hand, Daniel Irwin, Jonathan Coleman, Killian Rudden 0-1, David Kirk 1-1,  Michael Metzger Alan Mc Cahey 0-6, Paudie Kirk, Oisin Conroy, Sean Mc Clory, Allan Kieran, Andrew Brady, Sean Marron, Stephen Mc Ardle, Donnacha Kindlon, Adam Martin, Patrick Duffy & Ciaran Hyland.

Mentors: Damien Freeman, Paudie Finnegan & Peter Ward

Minor Championship

Magheracloone will have a gap of almost 7 weeks before the county final in Clones. The opposition will be provided by near neighbours, Donaghmoyne & an exciting encounter is guaranteed. The team will be hoping to go one step further than last year’s beaten finalists and bring the cup to Magheracloone. It is vital that all players attend every training session.

History Makers in The Buncrana Cup

Magheracloone boys play their part in the winning of the Buncrana Cup for the first time ever. Congratulations to our very own Padraig Mc Mahon and Jack Kirk who played a major role in the fantastic win today. Having beaten Fermanagh and Tyrone in the qualifier group they earned their place in the Semi-finals and so the Monaghan County U16 team made the long trip to Buncrana this morning to take part in the semi-finals of the Buncrana Cup for the first time. The opponents were Derry in the semi-final with a final score Monaghan 1-10 Derry 0-12. They then met Armagh in the final and were crowned Ulster Champions on a score line of 3-8 to 1-11. We hope these two history makers will take the Cup to visit our Parish very soon. Well done Boys, you have done us proud.

Under-16 Championship

The Championship quarter final was played on 18th August in Killanny with the opponents being Donaghmoyne. Having beaten the same team just over a week ago by a large margin maybe we were over confident going into this game. Sport can be a cruel task master and games that you have the edge for most of the play don’t get reflected on the score board.Magheracloone lead by up to 7 points at times but in the last ten minutes Donaghmoyne showed they were the hungry side. They upped their level of intensityplayed the ball, won their frees & in injury time Donaghmoyne snatched the semi final place with just a single point. The evening was drawing dark as the referee called for the ball on a score-line of 2:13 to 2-14.

Team: Jack Kirk, Fergal Goodman, Connor Mc Keown, Conal Rooney, Ronan Burns, Connor Cassin, Peter Finnegan 0-1, Niall Marron 0-1, Luke Mc Kenna 0-1, Aidan Carolan 0-1, Damien Rudden 1-1, Liam Óg Murray 0-3, Barry Kieran 0-1, Padraig Mc Mahon 1-3, Killian Mc Nally, David Martin, Ronan Goodman, Dylan Mc Cahey 0-1, Dylan Tuite, Stefan Mc Cahey, Daniel Babbington

Under-16 Championship

With a bitter defeat in the Championship the U16s will be hoping to make up for this in the League. Currently sitting in the top spot with 20 points things are looking good. The next league outing is Thursday 21st August against Scotstown to be played in Killanny at 7:15pm. Please make the short journey to support the team and mentors.

Under-15

Cloghan was the venue for the 7 a side U15 super touch blitz on Thursday last. This proved to be an entertaining night’s football in cold conditions. The boys were victorious in their first two matches against Clones and Cremartin with high skill levels on display, they were unlucky to be put out of a semi-final place by a strong Ballybay outfit.

Team: Niall Marron, Liam Óg Murray, Connor Cassin, Connor Mc Keown, Barry Kieran, Dylan Tuite, Stefan Mc Cahey, Dylan Mc Cahey, Aidan Carolan, Fergal Goodman, & Ronan Goodman.

Mentors: James Kieran, Gerard Mc Keown, Johnny Smith, Ronan Freeman & Declan Mc Cahey.

Thank you to the organisers and referees in making the night enjoyably for all.

Under-14

The Under-14 league continued on Saturday morning last with a trip to Monaghan to play the Harps. This was at no stage a free flowing game with neither team playing the type of football they are capable of. The disjointed and scrappy nature of the game continued until the final whistle with the score reading Magheracloone 11-17 Monaghan Harps 1-6.

Team & Scorers: Matthew Kieran, Jack Doogan, Connor Mc Keown 1-1, Shane Burns, Daniel Mc Connon, David Martin 2-1, Liam Óg Murray 1-5, Kyle Matthews 1-0, Ryan Mc Nulty 2-1, Aaron Kierans, Frances Lambe 0-1, Gary Marron 1-0, Ronan Mc Keown 0-1, Dylan Mc Cahey 2-7 & Ciaran Mc Mahon 1-0.

Mentor: Gerard Mc Keown

Our next league game promises to be an exciting encounter when we meet our neighbours Carrickmacross in the final league match of the year. This is a home game for us and will be played on Tuesday 26th August at 7:00pm. All support would be very welcome.

Semi-final date is fixed for Tuesday 1st September.

Under-12

Due to the involvement of many players in the community games finals the Division 2A Shield Final has been rescheduled to Saturday 30th August when we will play Tyholland. This is currently fixed to be played in Castleblayney with time to be confirmed.

Under-10

Clones was the venue on Saturday last for the U10 blitz with 34 teams taking part. Between the cold weather and holiday makers we had only ten players togging out. However this was enough to make a team and the boys enjoyed three good matches against Doohamlet, Toome and Tyholland with each child getting a good taste of the action. Thank you to the coach Declan Mc Connon who travelled with the team and to all the parents to help out on the day. Thanks also to those who lined out the pitches and to the referees.

Team: Conal Burns, Joe Burns, Cian Duffy, Mark Mc Cahey, Patrick Doogan Burke, Oisin Byrne, Shay Duffy, Corey Doogan, Colm Farrelly & Patrick Farrelly.

Training continues on Thursday evening in Scoil Bhride from 7pm – 8:30pm

Under-8

A challenge match with Kingscourt is fixed for Wednesday 20th August. (report to follow) Training continues as normal in Scoil Bhride every Wednesday evening 7:30 – 8:30.
