Senior team – With Monaghan advancing to the All-Ireland Quarter Final this Saturday, there will be no Senior Fixtures this week. Our next match will be on Wednesday 13^th of August when we travel to Latton for a 7.30pm throw in. Our Championship match against Doohamlet is scheduled for Saturday 16^th of August at 5pm but maybe open to change depending on how Monaghan progress in the All Ireland series.

The Reserve Team – It was a mixed week for the Reserve Team, last Wednesday night they travelled to play Drumhown in their last league game and required a win to secure top place in the League. The lads were forced to field an understrength team due to injuries and holidays but gave a good performance by all, insuring that we secured the two points. On Friday night we travelled to Tyholland to play Scotstown in the O’Duffy Cup Final, we got off to a great start when Keith Hill scored a goal after one minute and mid-way through the first half we led by six points. Unfortunately that was as good as it was to going to get, Scotstown finished the last quarter of the first half and the opening quarter of the second half very strongly and ran out worthy winners on a Final Score Line of Faughs 1-8 Scotstown 1-15. The Boys have a chance to get over their disappointment when they take on Cremartin in the final of the league this Friday the 8^th of August in Blackhill at 7.30pm, can we ask as many of you come out to support the team.

Minors – What a difference a week makes in football never mind politics. Last Wednesday evening the Faughs Minor team left St Mary’s Park gutted after their defeat to Killeevan in the Minor Championship and less than seven days later the boys got the opportunity to try to get some of that frustration out of their systems when they played Killeevan again, this time in a vital league match.  As last week proved there is nothing really between these two sides, with the Faughs going in two points in front at half time, the match was very much in the balance. The start of the second half saw the margin reduced to the minimum but it was at this point that the boys dug deep to notch on a couple of great points through Joshua Walsh and Brandon Rice, before Ronan McNamara finished to the back of the net to leave five between the teams with ten to go. A goal from Killeevan with eight minutes to go meant that it was going to be a tense finish, but a super strike was scored by Pierce Callaghan to the back of the net. This followed by a Jimmy Walsh point insured the two points were heading the Faughs way. Best on the night was Kyle Plummer in Goals, Ethan McCann, Joshua Walsh, and Ronan McNamara. Final Score: Faughs 2-11 Killeevan 1-11. The result now leaves the lads in second place in the table with 12 points, with their final fixture on Tuesday 12th of August against Sean Mc Dermott’s at 7.30pm. Well done to all, just the response that was required.

Under 16 Boys – On Thursday evening this Faughs team moved themselves into second place in their league with a committed performance against a strong Patrick Emmett’s team. Early goals gave the Faughs team a lead they didn’t relinquish throughout the game, despite Patrick Emmett’s coming back strong on a couple of occasions. Ross Byrne and Mark Connor held the edge at midfield and provided Josh Walsh, Kyle Plummer and Francis McGeough with a good supply from which they managed to get some excellent scores with Cian O’Connor making a couple of top drawer saves to maintain the Faugh’s lead. Sterling defensive work from Ryan McKernan and Craig Callan ably supported by Ruairi Farrell and Jack Callan who dropped deep to help out, managed to keep the Emmetts at bay and secure two valuable points. The Boys now play Tyholland in the first round of the Championship of which date and time yet to be confirmed. Best of luck lads keep up the great work.

Under 14 Girls – The Championship is next up for the Girls. They have been drawn into a group with Truagh and Carrick in the round robin series, the first match is a home game against Truagh on Monday 11^th of August at 7pm with our second game against Carrick an away fixture at 7pm on Monday 25^th of August. The teams in the other section are Tyholland, Kilanny, Killeevan and Scotstown. Top two teams in each section to qualify for the Semi-Finals.

Under 14 Boys – The lads return to league action on Tuesday the 12^th of August at 7pm when they play Sean’s in their second last league match, a win would secure top position in the league and also a league Final spot, no doubt Sean’s will travel to St. Marys Park to gain some revenge for their recent Championship Final defeat, so we will need another good performance to secure the two points

Under 12 Boys – This Saturday see both the Under 12 teams enter the knock out stages of both their competitions with home Semi Finals fixed for St Marys Park. First up will be the Development team who play Latton at 10.30am which will be followed by the senior team who play Carrick in the Shield Semi Final at 11.30am (Parents please note the earlier throw in time). Hopefully we will have two wins which will send the boys off with a smile their faces to Croke Park.

Under 10 and Under 8 Boys – The lads played Crossmaglen last Saturday morning in a deluge of rain. It was great to see that all the boys turned up, while Cross were the bigger stronger team, our boys competed very well and never stopped right throughout the match. Well done to both teams for firstly turning up and then putting on a great football display. Details of this week’s schedule will be communicated during the week.

Street League – The street league for the Under 10 and Under 12 age groups continues this Wednesday at 2pm. Can we ask all players to be in the field for the games at 1.45 please.

Summer Camp – The McMahons Centra Faughs Summer Camp takes place on the 13th-16th August. Application forms for the camp are still available at all training sessions and also in McMahons Centra & Supervalu. We ask that you return the forms as soon as possible to help us plan for what promises to be an action packed Camp.

Stars in the Faughs Eyes – If you want an enjoyable evening out, then please book Saturday 20^th of September into your Diary, the Club will hold an unique evening when lots of different community groups will come together to put on show that you will definitely remember. We will realise further details over the next few weeks.

Congratulations – A big well done to the Castleblayney Senior Hurlers who won the County Senior Hurling Championship last Sunday when they defeated Inniskeen by 1-13 to 9 points.  Congratulations to Mark Treanor who got “Man of the Match” for an outstanding display and well done to everyone involved.  Great to see the Mick Quigley Cup being taken through the town on Sunday evening.

Well done and the Best of Luck –Last Saturday proved to be the wettest day of the year but the rain couldn’t  spoil anyone’s excitement in Croke Park as Monaghan battled bravely to get that historic Croke Park win over Kildare in the Championship. Next up are the might Dubs on Saturday evening at 6pm, this team are re-writing the Monaghan GAA history books over the last while. Let’s see if we can get two back to back wins in the Championship in Croke Park for the first time ever. Best of Luck to Dermot, Marty and all the County Team.
