Senior Football:

Our game against Castleblayney on Friday in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior football league has been deferred, owing to the qualifiers.

Reserve Football:

Having completed all our fixtures the reserve team are currently placed in the top four with only Toome able to catch and replace them with two games to play. This will not be known until all the fixtures are complete but well done to all on an excellent campaign.

Youth Affairs

U8’s:

We travelled to Aughnamullen last Friday 18th July for the U-8 ‘Go Games’. We played games against Aughnamullen, Drumhowan and Rockcorry. The Currin panel on the day were Killian Kierans, Conor Murphy, Sean Mc Quaid, Aaron Smith, Caolan Connolly Smith, Nathan Gavan, Zach Rooney, Dearbhla Burns and Sinead Burns. There was a great effort put in by the panel against some strong teams. Well done in particular to Dearbhla and Sinead Burns on their debuts for the U-8 team after training all year. A special mention to young Cian Murphy to made some impromptu appearances during the games and who showed some fine tackling skills! A big thanks also to the parents who travelled and provided the transport. There will be no training this Saturday.

Terry McEntee:

It’s great for Currin to report continued success for one of our U-16 footballers who won his semi-final bout in the national stadium last Friday. He will now fight this coming weekend in the National Cadet Boxing Final.

U 16’s:
Patrick Emmets had a great win over Tyholland in a high scoring and highly entertaining game away with a final one point win for our boys, who fought their hardest until the end. Our scores came from; Cameron O Leary 0-3, Mark Murphy 1-0, Kevin Murphy 0-4, Conor Beattie 1-2, and out top scorer was Tyler O Hanlon 3-5. Also a big well done to Jason Mc Kearnan who had a brilliant game and never gave up! Again, huge well done to these boys and we hope they can keep it up! Final score, Aghabog/Currin 5-14, Tyholland 5-13. We continued against Clones on Tuesday last.

Minors:

Patrick Emmets went down in the championship against Latton on Tuesday last, Final score, 3-13 to 0-13.

A good story:

A great club man, a former player, an erstwhile umpire, sometimes ubiquitous but always effervescent, our own Currin diehard, Sean Quigley, has recently proven that in any arena being chronologically disadvantaged is no impediment to achievement. Well done, Sean, we wish you continued success.

County football:

It wasn’t to be, the ‘back to back’ provincial success has eluded Monaghan. The ‘cliches’ abound as to the reasons why but suffice to say well done to Dick and Jack for being part of this team. Hopefully Kildare will be beaten on Saturday week and a mouth-watering tie with the ‘Dubs’ will be a huge incentive for all.
