Inniskeen Country Fest 2014 – Sponsored by Mc Ardle Skeath

Last week saw the conclusion of this year’s festival, and what a turnout we received over the 5 days. It was beyond expectation and more importantly the positive feedback we received from attendees was very humbling.

We thank each and every person who attended Countryfest 2014.

The quiz set the tone for the weekend ahead and proved to be a big hit with the GAA anoraks who attended.

Declan Nearney kicked off the Music end of the festival by blaring out his timeless tunes, while Nathan Carter and Mike Denver proved why they are the kingpins of the country scene by attracting thousands to the New Improved Spacious Marquee.

I might also add that the main acts where brilliantly supported by Larissa Gargan, Adrian Goslin and our very own Micky the Butcher who had the dance floor hopping before the arrival of Mike Denver on Sunday night.

Unfortunately the Kids sports day events on Monday had to be cancelled due to the poor weather conditions, however it did not stop a great turn out we had for our annual football tournament; Clash of the clans.

The Meegan clan fought out a gutsy win against second time runners up the McArdle Clan ans all was played in good spirit.

The whole weekend wrapped up in fantastic spirit at the Ceoltas session and the unexpected and surprising return of Adrian Goslin on Monday night.

It takes a huge effort to pull off a countryfest and it would not be possible to achieve such a feat without the effort and dedication of our fantastic army of 60+ volunteer’s.

Everyone from the Bar Staff, Security Staff, our Grattan Oige Class collectors, Ticket Collectors, Table Servers, Carpark attendants, Stock runners (who know who you are), our dedicated Sub Committee lead by Paul and Robbie, our main Committee and most importantly the unflappable BBQ queens Mary, Rita, Eithne, Catherine, Ann, Fiona, Bridge and not forgetting the Candy Floss King Geraldine.

Also thank you to the following local businesses (please forgive me if I left Some out) for supporting the event in some way: Magee’s Shop and Bar, Irish Pride bakery, David Mc Keown, The Fiddlers restaurant, Boylan Construction, Dooley Agri, Butler transport, Martin Food Equipment, D & G McArdle, Flynn transport, Inniskeen Social Hall, Killanny GAA and Community halls, Meegan Insulation and Watters Electrical.

Last but not least we would like to thank our Main Sponsor McArdle/ Skeath for their continued support, this partnership with Countryfest is running a few years now and we appreciate the working relationship with Michael and the Crew.

McArdle Skeath is a great locally business and Countryfest is delighted to be associated with them.

Once again thank you all who attended and keep an eye on www.countryfest.ie over the next few weeks to catch a sneak peek at who may pop into countryfest 2015.

Until then, don’t forget to keep her country.

IFL:

Our senior footballers went down to a much Hungrier Emyvale outfit last Sunday.

We just could match the intensity they brought to the encounter and this accompanied with a light squad due to multiple injuries proved one step too far for us on the day.

Goals at key times in the match left too much between the teams.

The Main contributors for the grattans where Colm Meegan, Mattie McKenna, Michael Fizpatrick and Big Gerry who was quite effective when moved into full forward in the second half in order to benefit from the strong wind.

Alan Ryan picked up what looked like a shoulder injury on the stroke of half time, we hope that it is not too serious and he is back in action quickly.

Next up is a home match against Tyholland this Sunday in Pairc Grattan, it’s important we bounce back quickly.

Please come out and give the lads support for the huge effort they are putting in this season.

Inniskeen Camogie

The girls continued their winning streak in the Louth League when we beat St Anne’s on their home turf recently. After getting off to a great start with goals from Martina O’Connor, Mairead Monahan and Gillian Hamill, St Anne’s decided to get in on the action with 2 quick goals for themselves.

The second half was a very close affair and in the dying seconds Inniskeen snatched victory when Martina O’Connor got on the end of a long ball in from Sharon McGahon to guide the sliotar to the back of the net. Full time score 4.05 to 3.07.

We played Clontibret on Monday evening last in the Monaghan Reserve League. Weather conditions were terrible with heavy downpours throughout the game. However the girls battled away with great grit and determination.

We enjoyed a 4 point lead at half time but in the second half Clontibret clawed their way back and eventually won the match by 3 points.

Training again this Friday evening at 7.45pm with Eddie.

Underage training continues Sunday mornings at 11.45am in Grattan Park. Messages will be sent out soon in relation to the upcoming blitzes in Cloghan.

A big thank you to all those who helped out and supported us with the Kavanage Country 10k and 5k race. Well done to all who participated in particular Naill Gorham who was the fastest male home and Rose Anna Hoey who was the fasted female.

Finally, congratulations to the Inniskeen Grattans on hosting another fantastic and enjoyable Country Fest Weekend.
