The first ‘Darkness into Light’ 5km walk/run in Monaghan takes place at 4.15am this Saturday, May 10, starting and finishing at the Monaghan Harps grounds, Gavan Duffy Park. ‘DiL’, sponsored by Electric Ireland, is the annual fundraiser for Pieta House, who help to prevent suicide and self-harm. The walk, which is now in its sixth year and will be bigger than ever this time around, will cross the line just as dawn is breaking, symbolising the work of Pieta House. GAA Director General Páraic Duffy and President-Elect Aogán Ó Fearghail, Monaghan senior football manager Malachy O’Rourke, players and County Board officials and Monaghan Rose Sonia Casey are among those supporting the event, which is expected to attract a crowd of several hundred.
