Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League

Experience has taught me that never to write a match report when feeling upset and always resist the temptation until one’s emotions have cooled down and then start! So before I begin, I was just wondering does anyone else have a soft spot for the classic westerns? I do admit I am a fan, I love a good western and one of my all-time favourites is Sergio Leone’s ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. In a similar fashion, when our reserve footballers played Sean McDermott’s in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league last Sunday 20^th April their performance undoubtedly showed up all three elements as we produced a lot of the good but sadly we also displayed some bad and a bit of the ugly! The game was played at a really high and competitive pace and in truth we produced some of the best football of the year especially during the first half. All the positive qualities you would associate with the game were very much evident, the movement up front was excellent, our defenders were solid and tenacious in the tackles and the midfielders were on top form showing plenty of aggression, intent and being adventurous. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about, our level of performance during the course of the second half where we struggled to find any fluency and rhythm in our game and quite simply it was very disappointing and as a result Sean McDermott’s secured the victory on a score-line 1-9 to 3-8. Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Fixtures

With the Monaghan county team playing Donegal in the National Football League Division 2 Final this Sunday 27^th April there have been a few changes to the original fixture schedule. The senior team will be back in action on Friday 2^nd May when they travel to Threemilehouse to play Sean McDermott’s and throw-in time is 7.45pm. On Wednesday 7^th May they have a home game against Emyvale at 7.45pm and on Sunday 11^th May they have another home game against Clones and throw-in time is 2pm.

Wedded Bliss

Good Luck

The Allianz National Football League Division 2 Final between Monaghan v Donegal takes place this Sunday 27^th April at 2pm in Croke Park. On behalf of everyone from the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our best wishes and good luck to the team and the team management in their attempts to secure the title. I would urge all our club members and fans to travel to the game, if possible, and get behind the players who did the county so proud with promotion back to the top flight. Lads you have the ability and the strength to do it, so there’s really only one more thing left to say or roar…COME ON MONAGHAN.

Go Games Blitz

Our under 8’s and 10’s footballers will get their first taste of action this year when they take part in a double blitz this Saturday 26^th April and it will be held at Sean McDermott’s between 10am to 12 noon and other teams will be Ballybay & Drumhowan. All parents and kids are requested to meet at the club rooms at 9.15am to organise transportation to the blitz.

Under 12 Spring League

The under 12 footballers will be back in action this Saturday 26^th April when they travel to play neighbours Aghabog and throw-in time is 12 noon.

Under 14 Fixtures

Our under 14 footballers played Aghabog today, Saturday 19^th April, in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 4 league. Pairc Naomh Mhuire was the venue and it was a fabulous day for a game with glorious sunshine, no wind and it was great to see a large crowd gather to watch an enjoyable game and support the players. Aghabog started the brighter and totally dominated the opening quarter and enjoyed a commanding advantage, leading 0-3 to 4-2 after the first fifteen minutes. Their supremacy continued throughout the second quarter as we struggled to get any kind of foothold in the match and despite having our fair share of possession we failed to convert it onto the scoreboard whereas Aghabog on the other hand were in scintillating form and added 3-4 to their tally to lead by 0-6 to 7-4 at the midway stage. When the third quarter started we showed a little more persistence and a little more effort and while we scored 1-4 Aghabog notched up an impressive 2-6 to hold a comfortable 1-10 to 9-10 advantage going into the final quarter. Thankfully, we showed a lot more grit & determination in the final period and made the perfect start with a couple of early goals. We continued to control the game and played some nice attacking football and makes you wonder why we did not play at this level of intensity during the opening periods? However, as hard as the lads tried to close the huge gap they came up short against a strong  and physical Aghabog side who held off a late onslaught to secure the win on a final score-line Rockcorry 5-16 (31) Aghabog 9-11 (38). Their next outing will be on Saturday 3^rd May when they travel to play Toome as 12 noon.

Under 16 Fixtures

We have a well-known phrase in this country that goes “it never rains but it pours” and when our under 16 footballers travelled to play Latton in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league last Thursday 17^th April, it was sadly a case that things don’t just happen a little bit but in an unforgettable way that leaves a drastic impact! The match was not a classic contest by any means and while the lads tried hard and battled for everything they really only came to life in patches. Latton, on the other hand, delivered a more consistent display over the hour and scored four goals in both halves to secure a comfortable victory on a final score-line Latton 8-9 Rockcorry 3-4. Their next game is tonight, Thursday 24^th April, when they entertain Clones at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. Please check official list for throw-in time.

Child Protection Course

Monaghan GAA will be hosting a Child Protection Course in Cloghan on Friday 25^th April for participants from all clubs. This course will run from 7-10pm and is subject to a minimum of 12 participants taking part. The cost for this course is €10 per person which the club will cover. Please remember that it is a recommendation that all active members should renew their child protection awareness every THREE years and if you are interested then please contact our youth officer Pascal Smyth or our juvenile secretary Tracey Rooney.
