Monaghan Electrical Intermediate

Our senior team played their second game of the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league last Saturday 12th April when they entertained Inniskeen at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and had to settle for a share of the spoils after the sides played out an enthralling game of football. In what proved to be an extremely physical contest there were some really intriguing individual battles across the field where no quarter was asked or given and both teams deserve credit for maintaining the high standards and for playing the game in a very sporting manner. I imagine both sides will be slightly disappointed at not coming away with both league points but on balance of play I think a draw was probably the fairest result as both teams deserved to take something from this highly entertaining and thrilling battle that ended Rockcorry 2-12 Inniskeen 3-9. A full match report and a selection of action shots can be viewed at www.rockcorrygaa.ie or visit our Facebook page.

On behalf of everyone at the club I want to extend our best wishes to Fergal McGeough after he sustained a knee injury while playing against Inniskeen. We wish him a speedy recovery back to full fitness and hope to see him out and about wearing the ‘green & white’ jersey as soon as possible.

Under 12 Spring League

I don’t believe there is any other sport in the whole world that truly captures the enjoyment enthusiasm, honesty, spirit, character and determination just like Gaelic Games! On occasions, we are all guilty of perhaps focusing on high profile county games or other high profile matches (and rightly so) but when you witness an amazing game of football, particularly being played by the youngest members and future stars of the club you just have to give credit where credit is due. Last Friday 11th April, I watched, with great interest, a highly entertaining game of football in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Spring League (Zone G) where our under 12 footballers entertained Tyholland at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. The contest was packed full of action and was played at a fast-pace with both sets of players competing with every ounce of energy and willpower. Unfortunately, while we came out on the wrong side of the score-line there was no winner & loser this evening because the real winner was the privilege to watch a thrilling and pulsating encounter where ALL kids displayed tremendous skill, talent and pride in wearing their respective club jersey’s and to me that signifies the true essence and beauty of our wonderful game. Conditions were almost perfect for the match with a nice dry & smooth playing surface, no wind or rain (for a change) but damn there was a real nippy chill in the air! Both teams started well and during the opening exchanges they were evenly matched and traded early scores and mid-way through the first half there was nothing between the sides with both teams on 0-3 apiece.  However, as half time approached Tyholland eventually got on top and enjoyed a dominate spell that yielded six unanswered points to lead by 0-3 to 0-9 at the interval. When play resumed both teams were cheered on by a large vocal support and the kids gave a super display and played some delightful football and to their credit they never gave up the fight. We did enjoy numerous bright spells and were unlucky not to have scored more but despite our best efforts we sadly never seriously looked like overturning a quality Tyholland outfit and the game finished Rockcorry 0-7 Tyholland 0-12. Hard luck boys and girls and as hard as it may sound now it was a really enjoyable and gripping game of football where you all gave a wholehearted performance. Keep up the good work at training and listen to your coaches and hopefully you will bounce back for the next fixture in the campaign which will be on Saturday 26th April when they travel to near neighbours Aghabog at 12 noon.
