Scotstown Notes

Football Season: The season started last Sunday in a double header at Pairc Mhuire, where our third team drew with Toome and our first team had a six point win over Monaghan Harps.

 

Senior League: Scotstown seniors were quick off the mark on Sunday and had four scores registered in the opening 6mins through Kieran Hughes, Shane Carey (2), & Darren Hughes. The Harps had their 1st score on 8mins but by the end of 1st Quarter Stephen Sherry point made it 5pts to 2, both sides exchanged first half scores with the home team having the upper edge, with further points from Kieran Hughes (2), Conor McCarthy, Shane Carey, Stephen Sherry & a 26th minute goal from Orin Heaphey left the half time score at 1-10 to 7pts. In the second half the game was evenly balance as regards the scores, Monaghan Harps registered 1-5 while Scotstown scored 8 second half points through Kieran Hughes (3), Darren Hughes, Emmett Caulfield, Shane Carey, Rory Beggan & Stephen Sherry to leave final outcome – Scotstown 1-18 to Monaghan Harps 1-12. Team: Rory Beggan, Eddie Beggan, Padraig Keenan, Damien McArdle, Donal Morgan, Emmett Caulfield, Fergal McPhillips, Stephen Sherry, David McCague, James Turley, Kieran Hughes, Shane Carey, Conor McCarthy, Darren Hughes, Orin Heaphey. Junior League: In our opening junior league Toome was a stern test for our young team as they went 4pts up after 10mins but then the sides were level on 14mins with a Ruairi Sheehan point, followed by Matthew McCague goal. Toome went ahead again scoring 1-3 without reply. A strong first half finish, with extra injury time played got our home team back in contention, with a Ruairi Sheehan goal and points each through Paul Sherlock & Shane Rice, left half time at 2-3 to 1-8 in Toome favour. The sides were level in the opening minutes of the second half with a Ruairi Sheehan point & Cian Mohan 45. When reduced to 14 men Scotstown really put in a good performance for the last 20mins, with the defence on top of everything and another Cian Mohan 45 & a Barry McMeel point, the home side were ahead for the first time with 8mins left. A Toome free was the last action of play as both teams shared the spoils at 2-7 to 1-10. Ciste Draw: Our Monthly Ciste Draw will take place in the Social Club on Saturday 29th March. Ciste ticket €7 and each committee member should please make an effort to sell their ciste quota of tickets

 

Minors: Our minors got their league campaign off to a winning start with a two point win over Monaghan Harps on a score of 1-12 to 3-4. The first half was low scoring with the Harps holding the edge by 1-2 to 4pts at the break. A good second half performance carried them through for a two point win. Scorers: Francis Maguire (0-5), Ciaran Treanor (0-4), Cian Mc Gonnell (1-0) Jack Turley (0-2), Conor McKenna (0-1). Next match is away to St Patricks on Tuesday 1st April at 6.45 in Drumhowan.

 

Reserve League Division 1A: Our B team is away to Clontibret in round 3 of the Reserve League on Saturday 29th March at 5pm

 

Registration Weekend: A Club Registration weekend will take place this weekend (28th – 29th March) to give members the opportunity to pay their 2014 dues, and for new members to sign up. The Registration Weekend will run in the Complex from 7pm-9pm this Friday & Saturday. The club membership fee for 2014 is due by the end of March. Easter Camp: Monaghan Coaching & Games Development will be running their annual 3 days Easter Camp for all juvenile members which will be taking place in Kilmore between April 22nd and 24th and anyone who would like further information should contact David Mc Cague @0876202242

 

Spring League: Both U12 teams will be in action on Saturday 29th March away to Emyvale in our respective Zone C & Zone D. First game at 12noon and 2nd game at 1.15pm

 

U14 DIV 1: After two rounds played our first team had their second draw in the league, another high scoring game at home to Inniskeen on a score line of Scotstown 3-16 to Inniskeen 4-13.Next match away to Emyvale on 1st April.

 

U14DIV 5: Our second team got their season off with a comfortable win at home to Inniskeen. Next match on Saturday 5th April at home to Carrick

 

U16 DIV 1: Round one of the league gets underway on Thursday 3rd April at home to Monaghan Harps at 6.30pm.

 

Club Shop: Sale continues in the Club Shop at Kilmore this Friday night from 7-8pm.

 

Bar Rota: Week beginning 31st Mar -6th April, the Bar Rota team on duty will be Edel McKenna, Orla Mc Carville and Alice McMahon.
