HARPS HANDBALL

Ulster Under 12 Champions
Eoghan Mc Ginnity won the Ulster Under 12 Singles at Kingscourt on Sunday last while Tiarnan O’Rourke and Deivydas Kaklauskas won the Ulster Under 12 Doubles.
Eoghan was in excellent form against Tyrone’s Cahir Monroe. He started patiently and awaited his chance for a “kill” opportunity.  He eventually dominated both games and ran out an easy winner on the scores 15-3, 15-5.
Congratulations to Tiarnan and Deivydas, who recovered from a nightmare start by falling 9 -1 behind to Brian Mc Aleer and Tiarnan Mc Garrity in their first game.  Some astute changes made all the difference as Deivydas wowed the large gathering with magnificent serves and cheeky backwall returns – the best of which was played behind his back and landed into the top corner.  Tiarnan produced his usual determined performance allied with good serves to win in straight games.
Jakub Szkup nearly caused an upset in the first game in the Under 13 singles against favourite Lorcan Mc Bride.  He led for most of the game but, when his Tyrone opponent levelled the scores at 11-each the Monaghan player could not cope with the power and fitness and eventually came out second best to an excellent player.
There were disappointing displays in the Under 13 and Under 14 doubles.  While Konrad Kowal’s serves produced some scores, the Tyrone players were much sharper and won both games easily.
The Under 14 match was perhaps the most disappointing of the day as Cailean and Hubert certainly did not do themselves justice. Perhaps the fact that they had waited nearly 6 hours before getting to play had something to do with a dismal display.  Tyrone were deserved winners. The Ulster Under 14 singles final which was scheduled for Kingscourt on Sunday last was postponed.  Justas will now meet Ronan Curran  in the refixed final in Monaghan this week.  Neda played favourite Ciara Mullen in the Girls U14 final  on Sunday and was delighted to get a score although the result was never in doubt.
All-Ireland Semifinal
Good luck to Paul Cassidy and Conor Mcc Donnell in their Semifinal against Wexford opponents in Tinryland, Carlow, on Saturday.

MELLANS HANDBALL

Ulster Champions. Congratulations to Aaron and Ryan Mohan as they won yet another Ulster Final, this time taking the U15 title, there they faced the Tyrone pairing of Conor Kelly & Teirnan Mc Aleer, the game didn’t materialise into the battle that was anticipated as the boys won 15-3, 15-5, being in full control of serving and in general play the boys now progress to All Ireland Semi-Final this Saturday coming, they take to the alley in Beragh Co.Tyrone where they will be facing Wexford opposition in Anthony Butler and Patrick Boland, the boys play 3rd on the program which begins at 12am so probably the game will be about 1:30pm, good luck boys and all traveling support welcome.

It was hard luck for Shaun Ms Aree & Nicole Mc Carron as they lost their U17 Doubles final to a very strong Armagh pairing of Meabh Mc Mahon & Kaitlin Fleville, the girls played well and held their own in parts but lost 21-5, 21-8.

All Ireland Semi-Final. It was also hard for Michael Mc Carron as he lost his All Ireland Semi-final in the Diamond Masters “A” Singles to a very strong John Rossiter from Carlow, Mickey played well throughout but John’s power especially in serving and his killing from all angles just couldn’t be matched and he won 2 straight 21-7, 21-11.
