Emyvale Notes

February 18th, 2014

Annual Awards Night: This year’s annual awards night will take place on Saturday the 1st March in the four season’s hotel. The club would ask all members to keep the date and more details will follow next week.

Best Wishes: To the Scor representatives this weekend at the County Finals.

National Football League: Monaghan play there next National League game against Donegal in Letterkenny at 2pm on the 2nd March, Tickets are available for G&G Centra in Emyvale and if you buy  in advance of match day you get €5 off per adult ticket.

Handball: The GAA Handball All Ireland 40×20 2nd Level Colleges Championships took place in Kingscourt, Cavan on Saturday last. In the Senior Boys grade, Darren Doherty from St. Macartan’s Seminary met Daniel Relihan from Charleville CBS, Co. Cork in the Singles semi final.  Darren was in devastating form as he wrapped up the semi final 6 and 8 to book himself a place in the final against Dylan Sheridan from St. Ciaran’s College, Kells, Co. Meath a couple of hours later.  His form continued and he took the first game comfortably at 15 – 7.  In the second game it was close at the start with both players going point for point, and tied at 3 all for a time.  However Darren got into serve and took off & that was the last point the Meath man would score in this game and it finished up 15 – 3 for Darren to lift the Senior Title for 2014.

With Darren doing the Leaving Cert this year, this was his last handball outing in a Sem jersey for the Colleges Championships, and completes an amazing run for him in his 6 years at St. Macartans.  In that time he has won 6 Ulster College titles and 4 All Ireland titles, a spectacular record for Darren and St. Macartans.  We wish Darren the best of luck in the U-21 Ulster Championship Final next Saturday where he will take on Conor Mc Elduff (Tyrone) in Loughmacrory in his first provincial final in the U-21 grade.

Edward O’Flanagan had a devastating effect on the team & they returned to Junior Football in 1947. The club went through a few lean years & the following officers were elected at the AGM in 1949 Chairman:  Tom Murray; Vice-Chairman: Jim Smyth; Secretary: Semaus Mc Cluskey; Treasurer: Eoin Mc Mahon.
