Castleblayney Hurling Notes

February 11th, 2014

Registration Evening – This year the Club will hold its annual registration for all Juvenile Players over two evenings. Monday the 24th will see registration for Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12 taking place in the Club Rooms while the following evening Tuesday 25th  it will be the turn of the Under 14’s and Under 16’s. The Club will require a parent/guardian to accompany the players on the registration evening, remember all players must be registered as a member of the club in order to be covered from an insurance perspective. The evening will also allow the parents to ask questions about club activities, fixtures and training. Every player is required to attend so that they are fully registered.

Girls Presentation and Open Night – Friday the 7th of March will see the winning Under 12 Girls Football team receive their medals from last year’s competition. The presentation will take place in Castleblayney Enterprise Centre at 7pm. The evening will also allow Girls Football Chairperson Darren McQuillan  an opportunity to outline the exciting plans for Girls Football in 2014. Like every other part of our Club, Girls football is going from strength to strength with another huge crowd turning up for training on Monday night

Under 10 Fun 5’s – Last Saturday saw the Boys Under 10 team travel to Ballybay to take part in a new initiative run by the County Coaching Development Committee in which the Faughs sent two teams over to compete in an indoor Gaelic Football. These young Boys compete very well and the skill level demonstrated for players so young was a joy to behold.  This Saturday see the boys return to Ballybay for the next round of games.

Under 12 – The lads have been drawn in a tough group in the Spring League , this year they will face Carrickmacross, Inniskeen, Donaghmoyne and Latton.  Again, we are lucky enough to be able to field two teams at this age group.

Under 14 – This team will compete in Division 2 in a thirteen aside competition, they will face Ballybay, Donaghmoyne, Kilanny, Sean McDermotts and Latton.

Under 16 – The team this year will be managed by Tom Miller and will compete in Division 3, we will face Toome , Doohamlet, Tyholland, Killeavin, Clones and St Patricks which is a combination of Currin and Aghabog.  We would appreciate if we could get some more volunteers to help us with this team, if you are interested in helping out in any way please give Tom a shout.

Coaching Course – Paul O’Connor and the County Coaching team have been hard at work pulling together a number of coaching courses for February and March, this weekend sees the foundation course being run on Friday evening and again on Saturday in Corduff, with the level 1 Youth Adult version being run on February 21st/22nd and 23rd. The level 2 course will run each Saturday from February 28th to Saturday 15th of March. Wednesday 19th of Feb there is a course on Activate Warm Up given by Roger Keenan of the Ulster Council. Finally on Monday 24th of February, Tony Scullion will have a course on Back to Basics. All sessions start at 7.30pm and finish at 9.00pm, we ask all coaches to contact Keith Hanratty/Brian Sherry or Paul O’Connor to book your space on these FREE courses.

Lotto –  The numbers drawn for last weeks’ lotto which took place on the 03/02/14 are 13, 17, 19 and 26.  There was no winner of the jackpot which now stands at €2,300.  The four lucky dip winners were A. Irwin, 19 Bree, Seamus Leonard, C/o Concra Wood, Fiona Lonergan, Clady, Co. Armagh and Nudie Hughes, C/o Faughs.  Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to everyone for their continued support.

Mouth Guards – Just a reminder to all players and parents that from the 1st of January,  it is now compulsory to wear a mouth guard at all training sessions and matches. The GAA insurance scheme will no longer cover dental injuries.

Well Done – Congratulations to Traugh on winning the Intermediate All Ireland last Sunday , in a very exciting game, no doubt the will have their eyes on more Silverware in 2014. Also well done to the County Senior team who had a comprehensive win over Meath, next up for Dermot Malone and the Boys is a great tie against 2012 All Ireland Champions Donegal in Letterkenny at 2pm on Sunday 2nd of March, no doubt Donegal will be looking for some revenge for last year’s Ulster Final defeat.

Congratulations – This week a special club member celebrated his ninetieth birthday.  The Glencarn was full of friends, relatives and many Faughs people on Saturday night to help Liam McGrath mark a very special birthday. Well done Liam.
