McKenna Cup: The opening match of the McKenna Cup Competition produced some new talent to the Monaghan County team, where Monaghan and Derry provided the small crowd in attendance a good high scoring game. Well done to Shane Carey who made it on the starting team alongside his Club mates Rory Beggan and Kieran Hughes. It was a productive performance from the team considering they went down by 4pts in the end. Next match is on Sunday 12th January in Clones at 2pm against St Mary’s, Belfast.

Awards Night: The Monaghan GAA County Awards Night takes place on Saturday, January 18th in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan. Kieran Hughes will collect the Senior Footballer of the Year award; Rory Beggan, Young Footballer of the Year; Donal Connolly, Junior Referee of the Year (jointly with Kieran Rudden); Seán McCague enters the Hall of Fame; and Scotstown will pick up the Club of the Year award. Tickets €30. Contact 086-8041759 or email secretary.scotstown.monaghan@gaa.ie by January 15th if you wish to attend.

Shed A Load: You may want to lose weight and feel great then why not register up for the shed a load in Ballinode Community hall “Operation Transformation” where they have a registration night this evening Thursday 9th January at 7pm. Everyone Welcome.

Mouthguards:  The Gum Shields become compulsory for both training and matches in the season ahead. It’s important all juvenile players and senior players from the men and ladies teams have their mouthguard in place before entering the playing grounds. At Annual Congress in April 2012, a new rule was enacted that made it mandatory to use a mouthguard in all Gaelic football matches and training sessions from January 1st 2013 for all age grades up to and including minor. The rule will now come into effect at Under 21 and Adult level from January 1st 2014. Players will not be covered under the player injury scheme if they are not wearing a mouthguard.

Track: The lights on the track at Kilmore will be lit every evening from 5:30pm until 9:30pm for any runners/walkers wishing to use the facility.

DVD: The 2013 County Final DVD was a great sale over the Christmas and there are still some in stock if you wish to avail of one. Please contact Eugene McKenna on 086-8328499 or Kevin Connolly on 0877422519.
