Team Management

On behalf of the club I would like to welcome our new team manager Mickey Morgan to the club and wish him and the team every success on the playing field for the 2014 season. Mickey’s appointment was rubber-stamped at a committee meeting last weekend and we’re delighted that Mickey has agreed to come on board and we hope that he will enjoy working with the club and I would like to offer Mickey all our support for the upcoming league campaign.

Players Meeting / Training

Attention all players, I don’t want to hear you whine & complain because you all had a nice break over the Winter but it’s that time of year again lads, time to dust the old cobwebs off the old gear and get back into action, Yippee!!! Our new team manager Mickey Morgan has informed me that he intends getting the panel of players together sometime over the weekend so watch this space or keep an eye out for a text message confirming details.

GAA National Club Draw

Would you like to win a trip to the 2014 International Rules series in Australia or perhaps maybe tickets to the All-Ireland Football Final including an All-Star banquet and tour tickers to Boston. Well, if the answer is yes then I would encourage you to buy a ticket for the GAA National Club Draw which takes place on Monday 17^th March. There are ten fabulous prizes, that’s rights TEN, as outlined on our website www.rockcorrygaa.ie and tickets are now on sale and available from all committee members and players. Tickets cost €10 each and for your information all funds raised will be retained by the club so every ticket sold will benefit the club so please make sure you support the draw.

Club Membership

Club membership is now due once again and can be paid to our club Registrar Pat Brannigan. The annual subscription for adults is €20 with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5. It is important that ALL players pay their membership as soon as possible otherwise you will not be covered under the GAA insurance scheme. Please note that club membership will close on Monday 31^st March.

Monaghan Coaching & Games Development

Over the coming months Monaghan Coaching & Games Development will be running a series of courses and workshops that will cater for every coach within Monaghan GAA. There is a number of foundation courses penciled in throughout February & March which gives clubs the perfect chance to get new coaches up-skilled and educated. There is two Level One courses organised for February & March as well and coaches are asked to get their names in early as places are limited to make sure the quality of the course remains high and coaches get full benefit from attending the course. This year, for the first time ever Monaghan will be running a Level Two Children’s Award. This is a challenging course where Monaghan Coaching & Games Development Staff will be contacting coaches directly to complete this award. Also in conjunction with Cavan GAA a Level Two Youth/ Adult award will be running at the same time. There will also be a number of workshops that Monaghan Coaching & Games will be running free of charge alongside Ulster GAA staff. Garda Vetting

Within the club, we always try to promote best practice in the recruitment and selection of people to work with children in the club. It is therefore vital that any person i.e. coach, mentor, manager etc. within the club has completed the relevant Garda Vetting Form. In effect this means that any person working with underage teams on behalf of the club should be vetted.  ALL members of the committee and our underage coaches who have not been Garda vetted previously can you please ensure that you fill in and return a Garda Vetting Form to our youth officer Pascal Smyth or our children’s officer, Colm McCormick. ASAP

The ASAP (Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention) Programme is a joint venture by the GAA and the Health Service Executive. The aim of the programme is to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs. The programme forms part of the GAA’s attempts to tackle what has unfortunately become an ever more obvious problem in Irish society. The GAA have appointed an officer in each province and county to deal with the rollout of the programme and it is hoped that each club will appoint their own officer. Several well-known inter-county players are also involved in the scheme. In order to respond effectively to drug and alcohol related problems every club must develop a Club Drug and Alcohol Policy that is appropriate to the local area. To successfully complete this undertaking it is essential that we appoint an ASAP Officer who will work under the guidance of the ASAP County Officer. The club is currently working to develop an ASAP Policy and over the coming weeks we will hopefully be in a position to promote the programme.

National Football League

The Allianz Football League commences this Saturday in Páirc Esler in Newry at 7.00pm. This year anyone who buys their ticket in the days running up to the game can get it for €10. Match day price will be €15. Tickets can be bought at any Centra or Super Valu Store or at www.tickets.ie

GAA Season Ticket Now on Sale

The GAA Season Ticket can now be purchased at a base price of €85 for adults and €10 for juveniles. What’s included? All your County’s Allianz League round matches plus all League semi-finals, play-offs and finals in that code. You also get your County’s opening Championship fixture and all the Allianz League round matches in your selected code plus the AIB GAA Club All-Ireland Finals in Croke Park on St. Patrick’s Day. You will also enjoy discount prices during the Championship. Pay & Play kicks in after your opening Championship fixture. Those who buy a season ticket can also purchase Club + for an extra €50. This entitles the holder into all Club Championship Games in Monaghan.

Community Alert – Text Alert Information

To assist the Community and An Garda Síochána in the fight against crime the local community alert group are setting up a Text Alert System. This system has been set up in other areas around the county and has proved a huge success in combating and preventing crime. Community Alert is about local people working together to improve the community and to promote the best quality of life for everyone in the area. They aim to do this by working in partnership with An Garda Síochána to prevent crime and make our community a safer place to live. As a member of Community Alert, you can act as eyes and ears for An Garda Síochána by watching out for each other and passing on information to the Gardaí. It is with this in mind that they are setting up a Text Alert System in the area. If you wish to be a member of this text alert system and receive text alerts on your phone please provide your name, address and mobile phone number to the local representatives Gerry Coyle or Pat McCormick.

Mouthguards

ALL players will have to wear mouthguards from 1^st January as part of the GAA’s concerted attempt to cut down on facial injuries. As part of the incentives to make players adapt quickly to the new ‘no gumshield, no game’ rule, players will be sent off if they do not wear one. And, significantly, players who are not wearing one will not be covered by the official players’ injury insurance scheme. Deepest Sympathy

On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family, close relatives and friends of Emmeretta McGorman and Michael McCaul who passed away recently. May both their gentle souls rest in peace.
