Charity match: Our annual Christmas charity match took place last Saturday, December 28, with Hugh Coyle throwing the ball in as usual. After an ominous day on Friday, we were lucky enough to have dry conditions for the game, which provided all its usual thrills and spills. The ‘green’ team raced into an early lead, but the white-jerseyed team had more power in their legs and gradually took charge, with Owen and Yvonne Connell among the goal-scorers, before Mark McCabe tucked away his now customary clinching goal to great acclaim. Thanks to everyone who played in and watched the game, Fergus Coyle for refereeing, all who came into the clubhouse afterwards and supported the raffle, the local businesses who donated prizes and most of all, the organising committee. Any outstanding sponsorship forms and money should be returned to Owen Connell, Mary White, Theresa McCaughey, Liadhan Treanor or the clubhouse as soon as possible.

Management: Expressions of interest in managing juvenile teams for 2014 should be made to Maurice Galligan on 087 2294377.

Happy New Year: We wish everyone involved in the club a Happy New Year and success on and off the pitch in 2014!

Membership: Membership fees for 2014 can now be paid to registrar Dermot Coyle, treasurer John Harden or in the clubhouse.

New rules: It is compulsory from January 1, 2014 for all adult players to wear a mouth guard at both training and matches. All players and mentors are asked to take note. The new playing rules will also now come into effect: see online for full details.

Congratulations: To Dermot and Liz Brannigan on the birth of the club’s newest member, James Dermot!

Good luck: To Conor Galligan, Shane Smyth and the Monaghan senior footballers in their first fixture of 2014 in the McKenna Cup against Derry in Clones on Sunday.

Sympathy: We offer our sympathy to the family of the late Peter Brannigan and also to the Lenehans on the death of Patrick McDermott. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.

Yearbook: The third annual Monaghan GAA Yearbook was published last month and includes extensive coverage of a great year at county level. The book is available now in local shops.
