“DESTROYER IS TOP DOG”
Darren “The Destroyer” Doherty has become Monaghans top Handballer by winning this years senior championship. He defeated four time county champion Terry Kiernan in a nail biting final in Scotstown before Christmas. Darren spent the summer training in the USA with some of the worlds elite and the hard work obviously paid off as his abilities are now world class. That said, Terry was never going to be a push over. Terry’s determination and will to win makes him true competitor. The first game was a testament to Darren’s accuracy  with flat roll out after flat roll out. In the second Terry took the game to the roof which made for some fabulous rallies. Terry won the second forcing the tie breaker. It was neck and neck for the first half of the tie breaker but then Darren stamped his mark and won 21-12. We would like to congratulate Darren on becoming new county champion. Any of the up and coming young guns wishing to steal his title will have their work cut out.
