Clones Notes

January 21st, 2014

Coaching: Monaghan Coaching & Games development over the coming months will be running a series of courses and workshops that will cater for every coach within the club.  There is a number of foundation, level 1 and level 2 courses pencilled in throughout February and March, perfect for our new coaches and up skilling our existing coaches, these are a pre requisite for all our coaches and are a ‘must have! not a nice to have’.  So get your diaries out and dates picked, contact Phelim as early as possible to secure your place.

Club Development: There are also various workshops taking place in the Monaghan Training Centre in Cloghan on Tuesday 11th February, these courses provide essential information for our officers, booking is essential and can be done immediately through Secretary Kevin Lynch.  In addition there will be a representative from Croke Park to give information on a new online claims system for the Players Injury Scheme.

Well done to David Freeman who played for the County U21’s against Derry in a challenge match last Saturday.  Equipping himself very well David played well and took his scores when they came his way.  We wish him continued success.  The club has entered an U21 team this year and we look forward to some exciting games this season with a nice mix of experience and youth coming through.

Monaghan GAA awards night took place in the Hillgrove hotel on Saturday night, where our hardworking talented juvenile officer Joanne Reihill picked up her Juvenile Club Official of the year award. Comhghairdeas aris Joanne.

Club Dinner Dance: following the executive meeting last week the Dinner Dance has been set for February 15th, executive members are needed to help out with the dinner dance subcommittee.  With five trophies on display for our juveniles it’s sure to be a great night, it’s important to acknowledge these achievements.  Rewards aren’t great but the craic’s ninety.

Dr.McKenna Cup: disappointment for Monaghan against Cavan in Brewster last Sunday.  Having overcome one neighbour last Wednesday, this other neighbour proved more elusive.  Seeking revenge for their defeat in the Ulster semi-final Cavan were that bit hungrier against an experimental Monaghan team who were missing some of their talisman.  Bigger things hopefully lie ahead for our boys, Cavan go on now to play a strong Tyrone team leaving us to concentrate on Division II football and defending our Ulster Title.

National League Season Tickets and individual match tickets are now on sale in SuperValu, looking forward to Division II football, with our first game on the 2nd of February.

Minors – A DVD of St Tiarnachs successful league and championship finals is now available – please contact Jimmy Corr or Gerry O Gorman for further information.

Registration Day: is taking place this Saturday the 25th from 2-4pm.  All Club members are requested to attend.  Membership rates will remain unchanged at €10 for ordinary members (Family €25 – Adult Player €20 – Juvenile €5).  This is almost your last opportunity to pay your membership; a lot of effort has gone into creating this event so we’d encourage any outstanding monies to be paid.  Remember ‘no pay no play’, thank you in advance.

January is the longest toughest month of the year, keep an eye on your friends, family and neighbours. Spot the SIGNS.
