Juvenile AGM: The juvenile club’s AGM took place in the clubhouse last Thursday night. A healthy attendance listened to chairman Séamus McManus and assistant secretary Una Forde read out their annual reports, before reports were also given by Una, Finbarr Conlon, Martin Sheridan and Gerry Lynch on the Saturday-morning coaching and blitzes, Pádraig Callan on the Under-10s and the Under-12 Division 2B runners-up, Finbarr on the U-12 Division 1A team,  Michael O’Donoghue on the Under-14 Division One double winners, Séamus on the Under-14 Division Five runners-up and Maurice Galligan on the Under-16s. Everyone involved in the juvenile club was thanked for their efforts and we paid particular tribute to the Under-14s on their stellar success this year. Séamus announced that due to work commitments, he would be unable to carry on as chairman, but he encouraged anyone to consider taking up the role, saying his colleagues on the committee had made his job an enjoyable one. We thank him for his excellent efforts in the last three years. The election of a chairman was deferred until the next meeting, with the rest of the committee remaining unchanged, as follows: Vice-Chairman: Martin Sheridan; Secretary: Val Forde; Assistant Secretary: Una Forde. A full report will be available on the club website.

Presentation: The presentation of the proceeds of around €1,000 from last month’s recreational football tournament to Monaghan Cancer Treatment Support Group took place in the clubhouse last Saturday night. We also presented medals to all our players, as well as individual awards: Player of the Tournament: Finbarr Conlon; Top Scorer: Dessie McGarry; Most improved player: Dermot Coyle and Score of the Tournament: Chris Conlon, while Una Forde and Liadhan Treanor were both presented with flowers to thank them for their help. Thanks to everyone involved, especially Ciarán Cuddy, Martin Sheridan and Damien Morgan for their hard work. Particular thanks to the Kieran Morgan Memorial Fund for their generous donation.

Table quiz: We host our annual table quiz in the clubhouse on Friday, December 6. All support would be greatly appreciated for what is always an enjoyable night.

Christmas party: Our club Christmas party is set for Saturday, December 14. We look forward to a good crowd joining us for a good night’s fun.

Bag pack: We are taking part in a bag-pack in Tesco in association with the Irish Cancer Society, on December 13 and 14. Please volunteer some of your time if you can!

Draw: Sincere thanks go to everyone who bought or sold tickets for the Sportsperson’s Dream draw, which will take place this weekend. Fingers crossed we get a bit of luck in the draw!

Coaching courses: We were well represented at the Monaghan GAA coaching conference in Carrickmacross last Saturday, where the informative speakers included Monaghan manager Malachy O’Rourke, trainer Ryan Porter, minor coach Ciarán McBride, the county coaching staff and referee chief Pat McEnaney on the incoming new rules. Contact Val Forde if you wish to attend a coaching course in the next two weekends.

Scór: Two great nights’ entertainment were had by all at the Scór na nÓg county semi-finals last Friday and Saturday in Tullycorbet. The Harps Ladies representatives did all their families and mentors proud on the Friday night, getting through to the county final in Ceol Uirlise (Group Music), Aithriseoireacht (Recitation), Bailéad Ghrúpa (Group Singing) and Tráth na gCeist (Quiz). Then on Saturday night, the Harps men’s representatives got through in Amhránaíocht Aonair (Solo Singing), Recitation, Group Singing and Nuachleas (Novelty Act). We wish all these competitors the best of luck at the county final this Friday night in Clontibret at 8pm. To our competitors who didn’t get through to the final this year, we hope you enjoyed your night agus ‘go raibh maith agaibh’ for representing the Monaghan Harps club.

Well done: To Kevin Loughran, John Mulligan, James McKenna, Dónal McCarthy, Evan Morahan and the St. Macartan’s College MacRory Cup team for topping their group and good luck in the McCormick Cup final against Cavan next week.

Juvenile gear: Some gear from the juveniles’ sponsored walk has still to be collected. Please contact Una Forde on 087 6107329 to arrange collection.
