Seniors

We played Inniskeen on Saturday last in Scotshouse in what was our last regular Intermediate league game before the playoffs. This is because Aughnamullen have conceeded the final game of the series, and therefore we have no game next weekend. The field held up extremely well despite all the rain, and though not playing that well we came out with a great result, winning 4-8 to 1-13, thus ensuring that we finish in second place. We got off to a great start with goals from Jack and Stephen allowing us a cushion but Inniskeen fought back to draw level. Another goal fashioned between Dick, Jack and defender before half time saw us go in 3-2 to 1-7 ahead. In the second half another goal gave us a lead that we never relinquished. This important win now gives us a home venue for the semi final. The date for the semi-final has been fixed for 10th November at 2.00p.m. and will almost certainly be against Inniskeen in Scotshouse, even though there are a few outstanding fixtures to be played which will have no bearing on our finishing position. Team and scorers:- Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady, Conor Mc Caffrey, Enda Mc Caffrey, Ben Clerkin, Gerard O Callaghan, Tommy Maguire, Dick Clerkin (1-1), Paddy Mc Dermott, Niall McEntee (0-1), Stephen Smith, (1-2), Michael Quigley, Shane O Connor, Jack Mc Carron, (2-3), Dara Brady (0-1). Subs used, Cian North for Michael Quigley, Michael Quigley for Tommy Maguire.

Due to the inclement weather the venue and time for the final against Blackstaff has, as yet, not been fixed. Keep up with social media for definite details, as a good support is expected.

Daniel Mc Kenna, DMK Sports,

Congratulations to former Currin player Daniel Mc Kenna on his fantastic overall win in the British Rally R2 championship which concluded in Poole in Britain last weekend. This series began a couple of months ago and Daniel with six podium finishes out of six races was always to the forefront in his battle with the international opposition. He finally came out on top ahead of his nearest rival, Norwegian, Steve Røkland. We in Currin G.F.C. are delighted for Daniel, Arthur, Eamon and all the Scanbitz team. At the moment Daniel is involved in a number of prestigeous ‘end of season shoot-out’ events for the stars of the championships and will be returning home towards the end of the week, when there will be a homecoming party in the Community Centre on Sunday evening next at 7.30 p.m. All are welcome.

James Kiely, R.I.P.

It was with genuine sadness that we learned of the death of James Kiely, Lisboduff, who was interred in Bunnoe, last week. We extend our sympathy to his daughter, Carmel, and to his grandson Sean Brady, a current valued member of our senior team, and also to Ciaran a former Currin player and to his extended family and friends. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
