U-14 Fixture

On Tuesday our U14s suffered defeat at the hands of Killanny. Final Score Magheracloone 3-17 Kilanny 5-13,  we now go forward to play Emyvale in the Division 1 Shield Semi Final. Date to be confirmed.

U-16 Fixture

Our under 16 team produced a spirited comeback to defeat Corduff in a thrilling match in Killanny on Thursday evening last. An early injury to Allan Kieran seemed to unsettle the team and they trailed by 2-4 to no score after twenty minutes of play. From there to the break, however, the team rallied, spurred on by a goal and a point from Damien Rudden. A brace of points from Paudie Mc Mahon left the half time score Corduff 2-6 Magheracloone 1-3.

A brilliant goal from Paudie Mc Mahon shortly after the start of the second half put us right back into contention and the re-introduction of Allan Kieran further boosted the team as he quickly added on two points to level the scores. A Liam Óg Murray point put Magheracloone in front for the first time but Corduff hit a purple patch to go two points in front themselves. A second Paudie Mc Mahon goal after a great through ball from Barry Kieran restored our lead but it was short lived as a brilliant Fergal Hanratty effort put Corduff in front once again.

With just two minutes remaining Liam Óg Murray fielded a high ball on the edge of the square and rounded the keeper to finish with great aplomb and put Magheracloone a point in front.

It took a brilliant double save from Jack Kirk and tenacious defending from our hard working defence to preserve this slender advantage before Daniel Babington added the insurance point in injury time to leave the final score Magheracloone 4-8  Corduff 3-9. The team now qualify to play Cremartin in the final as they upset the favourites Truagh by 2-10 to 2-9 in the other semi final.

Team & Scorers:

Jack Kirk, Cian Conroy, Connor Mc Keown, Connor Casin, Jason Goodman, Luke Mc Kenna, Allan Kieran(0-3), Paudie Mc Mahon(2-3), Killian Mc Nally, Damien Rudden(1-1), Daniel Babington(0-1), Barry Kieran, Liam Óg Murray(1-1)

Subs: Niall Marron for Allan Kieran, Allan Kieran for Killian Mc Nally, Peter Finnegan, James Marron, Conall Rooney and Ben Unwin.

Minor Championship Division 1

This game was played on a fine Tuesday evening in Carrickmacross in front of a large crowd. Scotstown started with a goal and a point before Magheraclooones Alan Mc Cahey scored a point. The first half was an even affair with both teams scoring point for point until Michael Metzger caught a great ball midfield and pushed through to score a superb goal. This left the scores level at 1-6 each at half time. Alan Mc Caheys boots were in fine form turning in a total of 9 points and Paudie Kirk registering 1-1 with a captains performance to match.

Overall this was a great win for Magheracloone and all the players and mentors deserve credit. We look forward to the semi final against Monaghan Harps. Final Score Magheracloone 2-13 Scotstown 2:12.

Minor League Fixture

This Saturday, 7th September we were due to play Monaghan Harps  in the minor league semi-finals. However, this match had to be postponed due to the involvement of dual players who are representing Monaghan in an inter-county minor hurling competition on the same day. This fixture will be re-scheduled for a later date.

Senior Championship

Saturday 31st Aug last Magheracloone v Castleblayney in the back door of the Senior Football Championship.   This game finished level after normal time thanks to a last minute equaliser by Damien Freeman. Paul Jones scored the crucial goal in extra time to send the Mitchells through to play winners of Carrickmacross & Doohamlet who also ended all square after extra time in Inniskeen on Sat evening last. This game is due to be played on the weekend of 13-15th Sept. Final score after extra time Magheracloone 2-14 Castleblayney 2-13. We would encourage all of you to support this team as we bid for the Mick Duffy Cup.

Pitch Development

The continued good weather is allowing progress to proceed at a better rate than expected and Prunty is improving the structure of the topsoil by adding grit which involves ploughing the topsoil after grit is spread. After that surface drains or trench drains as they are better known will be installed at 800mm centres from top of the field to the bottom which will dissect the 7m centre drains.
