Doohamlet

September 18th, 2013

DOOHAMLET GFC Club Notes.

Senior Championship:  Teams and players can train and prepare for a championship match but nothing can prepare them for our Irish weather. On Sunday last Doohamlet played Magheracloone for a place in the quarter finals of the Senior championship. Strong winds, slippery underfoot conditions and squally showers made for a poor game of football. Doohamlet played against the elements in the first half and would have been happy with their battling performance that saw them go in at the break only one point down 0-03 to 0-04. In the second half however Magheracloone seized the initiative and were more clinical in front of goal and ran out 0-10 to 0-06 winners.

Credit to our players who made them battle to the end but unfortunately the loss of a number of our more senior players was too much to bear.

We wish Magheracloone all the best in the remainder of the competition.

All Ireland 7s:  Doohamlet travel to Ratoath GAA on Saturday next to take part in the Intermediate All Ireland 7s competition. As winners of the Monaghan Intermediate championship in 2012 Doohamlet will represent our County in this competition.

Breakfast Morning:  Doohamlet GFC will hold a Breakfast morning on Sunday 6th October after Mass in the local hall. This fund-raising event will coincide with our Minor Final which will take place on the same day.

Our Minors play St. Tiernachs as a curtain –raiser to the Junior final.

Under 14 Final: Our Under 14s have their big day on Saturday next when they play their Final in Aughnamullan with a 12.30pm throw-in time. We wish these boys well and hope they can top a great year and bring the cup home.

Thanks: Well done to All the Juvenile mentors, coaches and parents who organised all the various juvenile teams Boys and Girls for their photo-shoot with the Monaghan Senior and Minor cups last weekend. A special thanks to Doohamlet players Colin and Barry for giving their time to our young footballers.

Photos were taken in our new Community garden which is a credit to all involved in this project and was a fitting back ground to a special occasion.
