Seniors

We played Clones in the League on Sunday last and came away with a win. With the two teams due to meet next Sunday in the Championship this was always going to be a tentative affair with neither team showing their hand too much. After a close first half, only a Jack goal separated the sides at half time,1-5 to 0-5. After Clones were reduced to 14 men in the second half Currin ran out winners on a score line of 1-12 to 0-8. Team and scorers:- Fergal Connolly, Enda Mc Caffrey, Sean Brady, Dara Brady, Ben Clerkin, Conor Mc Caffrey, Paddy Mc Dermott, Dick Clerkin, (0-2), Francis O Callaghan , Philip O Callaghan (0-2), Ciaran Mc Caffrey, (0-3), Michael Quigley, Shane O Connor,  Jack Mc Carron, (1-5), Niall McEntee, Subs used, Gerard O Callaghan for Ben Clerkin, Stephen Smith for Shane O Connor. Next Sunday’s championship will be an entirely different game however, with Clones coming of a win against Inniskeen, they will fancy themselves. Throw in is in Ballybay on Sunday next at 5.30.p.m. Please support.

Juvenile and Youth  affairs.

U 14’s Last weekend provided a great few days for the Clones/Currin U14 teams. The Division1 team had a great semi-final win in the shield away to Scotstown to qualify for the final. It was the team’s best performance this year as Scotstown gave them a good hiding the last time they met. The team started with intent and were in front throughout. Playing some lovely flowing football they always had enough to keep Scotstown at bay. They were 4 points up at half time but some wasteful chances in front of goal kept Scotstown within touching distance. A strong last 10 minutes made sure the team pushed home to win on a score line

of 4-14 to 2-13. Team Cian Mc Carney, Nathan Daly, Cillain Martin, Caomhain O Neill-Mc Dermott, Kevin Murphy, Conor Reilly, Jack Lynch, Ollie Clerkin(0-3), Cameron Dowd(0-6), Dan Connolly (1-0), Matthew Reihill (0-1), Dec Mc Kernan(0-4), Tiernain Monaghan(3-0), Simon O Connell, James Cleary, Oisin Mc Phillips. They will play Magheracloone in the final on Saturday 21st Sept at 12.30 pm.. We wish the team and especially our Currin representatives Oisin Mc Philips, Kevin Murphy, Cillian Martin, Caoimhin O Neill and Cian Mc Carney all the best in this final. Cian is our only player at the moment involved with the county developement squad , but hopefully more of our young players can join him in the near future. Best of luck to all players, management in the final and your support would be very much appreciated.

The Division5 team had a great victory in the shield final against Truagh. A great first quarter was the foundation of the victory after the team were quick out of the blocks scoring 5 goals. In fairness to Truagh they kept their heads up and battled strongly to the end but they could never make serious in roads to the big lead we gained in the first quarter. There were some great individual performances with Conor Reilly, Oisin Mc Phillips and Simon O Connell holding firm in defence, Dan Connolly had a Man of the match performance in midfield and up front Tiernan Monaghan  and James Cleary had the scoring boots on. The lads were delighted as captain for the day Simon O Connell raised the cup and they enjoyed the traditional ’round the town’ parade. Final score Clones/Currin 8-12, Truagh 3-5. Henry Hipwell(0-1), Conor Reilly, Simon O Connell, Oisin McPhillips, Dan Connolly(2-4), Conor Murphy(1-1), Rian Kierans(0-1), James Cleary(2-0), Tiernan Monaghan(2-4) Kevin Coogan, Jamie Mc Quillain(1-1)

U-16’s,

Our Aghabog/Currin combination played in the league final on Saturday last against Doohamlet. Going down by one point on a score line of 4-12 to 6-7 in a great game of football is heartbreaking. However this team have the consolation of knowing that they have already won the championship. Well done to all concerned especially our mentors Niall Mc Entee and Enda Mc Caffrey.
