Senior football
On Sunday evening last we played Drumhowan in Clones in the Gerry’s, Intermediate Football Championship. Currin had accounted for Drumhowan in both league games and had to guard against complacency and adjust to the intensity of championship football. Having weathered the initial ‘championship’ style exchanges, Currin asserted their superiority and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Final score, Currin 3-13, Drumowan 2- 5. At times we looked good but the opposite was also the case. We conceded two ‘slack’goals and but for two saves from the excellent Fergal Connolly we could have conceeded two more. A strong showing from Conor Mc Caffrey and Sean Brady in defence rendered the Drumhowan dangermen almost anonymous and this was a huge positive to take from the game. All in all, a job completed but more to be worked on. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady,, Conor Mc Caffrey, Enda McCaffrey, Ben Clerkin, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Gerard O Callaghan, Dick Clerkin, (1-1), Francis O Callaghan, Stephen Beatty, Stephen Smith (1-3), Niall Mc Entee (0-2), Kieran Kearns, Jack Mc Carron(1-3), Philip O Callaghan, (0-4). Subs used, Dara Brady for Dick Clerkin, Shane O Connor for Jack Mc Carron. In the next round we have drawn our near neighbours Clones who had a fantastic win over firm favourites Inniskeen and will now be justifably fancying themselves for senior football next year. We travelled to Truagh last night in the League and play Tyholland on Saturday next in Scotshouse at 7.00 p.m.
Ladies Football
Monaghan had a big win over Laois in the quarter finals in Breffni Park on Saturday last. Ellen had a ‘stormer’in her new role of centre back and also it was good to see Laura figuring on the score sheet.
