The 4 lucky dips of €50 were Ronnie Dignam, Tullynacrunnett, Barney Comiskey, C/o Sarah Mackin, Ger O’Brien, Drumgarra and Sinead Bolger, Knockturnagh. Next week’s draw will take place in Corrigan’s Kitchen. The best of luck to all lotto players in next weeks’ draw and many thanks for your continued support.

The Faughs Gathering Gala Ball – With little less than two weeks to go to the start of the Faughs Gathering, the build up to the weekend is really starting to happen. The Club are delighted with tickets sales for the ball to date and we would ask anybody who has yet to purchase their tickets to do so as soon as possible to help us arrange our seating plan. We would also ask any of the 5-in-a-row invitees yet to confirm their attendance to do so with Melissa ASAP; again this is to aid the smooth running of the night. The Gala Ball will honour the famous five-in-a-row winning team as well as giving the people of Castleblayney an opportunity to gather to reminisce about the old times and more importantly allow people to catch up with friends from years gone by. Tickets which are €50 each, are now available from Barbara McHugh at 087 324 4512, Melissa Conlon at 087 7617216, Patrick Conlon at 086 4186686 or Gary O’Connor on 086 6034134.  To check all events for the Gathering weekend look up www.castleblayneyfaughs.com.
Mc Mahons Centra Faughs Summer Camp – The Faughs Gathering will open on Wednesday 21st August with the McMahons Centra Faughs Summer camp from 10am to 2pm for children between the ages of 5 and 13. Children of families who are returning to Castleblayney with their parents for the Gathering are particularly welcome. To date we have received a lot of registrations and we ask that all parents return their completed forms to the coaches this week. Spaces are limited so we would like to get an idea of the number of children attending so we can get another great summer camp organised.

Gathering Concert –Thursday the 22nd of August will see the Club hold a Gathering Concert in the luxurious Iontas Theatre for a night to celebrate the cultural aspects of our community with some singing, dancing and craic. One of the highlights of the evening will be the “Open Mike” sessions with former Faughs players and management legends as they roll Back the Years to chat about the fabled 5 in a row team as well as the teams & matches of the 70’s 80’s and about life down through the years in Castleblayney. Entry fee is €10 per ticket for adults and €5 for children which can now be purchased at Iontas, McMahons Supervalu or directly from Melissa Conlon at 087 7617216

Maurice Hanratty Golf Cup – As part of the Castleblayney Faughs Gathering weekend an open golf event will take place at Concra Wood in memory of former Faughs great and Castleblayney Golf Club favourite, Maurice “Mau” Hanratty. “Mau” as he was affectionately known by his golf and footballing friends won 5 senior championship medals with his beloved Faughs before taking up golf in 1990 after undergoing a serious heart operation. The singles stableford event in memory of Mau Hanratty is open to anybody associated with Castleblayney Golf Club, Castleblayney Faughs and the GAA family generally and will take place on Friday August 23rd. The Hanratty family have presented a perpetual cup for this event with other prizes on the day, sponsored by Heineken Ireland and McElroy Trophies and Signage. Tee reservation for the Castleblayney Faughs Open in memory of Maurice “Mau” Hanratty may be made online at www.concrawood.ie or by contacting the Golf Club office at Concra Wood. Details on other events being organised around the Faughs Gathering weekend can be found on www.castleblayneyfaughs.com

Operation TransFAUGHSmation – Yes it’s almost that time of year again……. Operation TransFAUGHSmation 2013 will be back before we know it, so keep Tuesday the 27th August free for registration and watch out for more information in the coming weeks, remember it’s a “fun way to a healthier lifestyle”…..hope to see ye all there!

Seniors – A mixed week for the seniors on the league front with a defeat to Ballybay last Wednesday night followed by a good win over Rockcorry at lunchtime on Sunday. The game with Ballybay was a high quality encounter with both teams taking some fine scores but was ultimitely decided by Ballybays great ability to create goal chances. Sundays game was much more straightforward with Blayney seizing the initiative early on and despite Rockcorrys best efforts they were never able to bridge the gap with Blayney running out 1-21 to 0-09 winners.
Senior Championship – This weekend sees the Faughs enter the senior championship fray with a 1st round clash against Clontibret, throw-in is 3.30PM on Sunday in Inniskeen. Please note the change in this fixture as it was previously advertised for Saturday evening

Under 12 Boys – The under 12 development team played the Division 3 semi-final against Carrickmacross on Tuesday last in St Marys Park at 7pm. Castleblayney won a very entertaining game on a scoreline of 1-09 to 2-02. (pictures from the game are attached)  The Senior team had a well contested challenge match against neighbours Crossmaglen last weekend as they continue their preparations for the under 12 final which is on August 31st.

Under 12 Girls – The under 12 girls team had a great win against Monaghan Harps on Monday evening last to qualify for their group final in the coming weeks. Well done to all the girls for their performance and indeed for their efforts throughout their first season of competition.

Under 6 – Training continues again this week in the field at 6pm, to date we have had great numbers but if there are any parents out there who wish their children to play Gaelic Football why not take them down to St Marys Park on any Thursday evening at 6pm and let them join in.

Best of Luck – The Club would like to wish two of our upcoming player all the best in this week’s All Ireland Community Games in Athlone.  Joseph Hughes will compete in the Under 12 600 meters while Jack Callan will compete in Under 14 800 meters, hopefully all their training pays off for them.
