ROCKCORRY G.A.A.

CLUB NOTES

23rd July 2013

Champione, Champione, Ole, Ole, Ole

They say what’s rare is truly wonderful and after last Sunday I believe this most certainly is the case because it was an absolutely brilliant day for Monaghan football with both the minor and senior teams winning their respective provincial titles. It has been a long wait for silverware but after the marvelous performances in Clones last Sunday it has been worth it and on behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend a massive congratulations to both teams on their achievements. It was truly a magical, majestic moment that will unquestionably leave a lasting impression on a lot of people especially within the county but also Monaghan Gaels around the world. Well done to all involved, you have provided us with amazing memories that we will cherish and remember for a long, long time and with success now tasted hopefully we can go all the way and be celebrating again come September. Well done lads, keep up the good work….Hey, Hey, Hey wer’e the Farney Army!!!

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Div 2B

Our under 12 footballers returned to action in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 2B league competition last Saturday 20th July when they entertained Donaghmoyne at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. It was another glorious sunny day for a game and all the boys and girls have to be applauded for their efforts, playing in blistering hot conditions. While the final score-line shows a comprehensive win for the Donaghmoyne side, in my mind, it does not truly reflect the match because it wasn’t all one way traffic and for long periods of this highly entertaining match our wee brave-hearts gave as good as they got. The shape of the game was utterly changed in a hectic and frenetic five minute blitzkrieg just before the interval where Donaghmoyne totally dominated the encounter and notched up an impressive score to build up a comfortable lead, leading by 1-2 to 5-14 at the interval. Confidence may have been a little dented after that ferocious spell just before the break but the team dug deep, they never gave up and battled on from start to finish and showed they were more than capable of matching their opponents as they stepped up to the challenge and responded perfectly with a gutsy performance and showed some lovely displays of football (and indeed they won the second half) but in the end we gave ourselves too much to do and had to give way to a stronger Donaghmoyne side who ran out eventual winners on a final score-line 4-5 to 7-19.
