Inniskeen-Under 16 Div III Champions 2013

U16 Champions

What can only be described as “A good tough battle” between Inniskeen Grattans and Killeeven Sarsfields, eventually saw Inniskeen come out triumphant in the Under 16 Championship Final in Blackhill on Thursday night last (18^th July).

Having met each other twice already in the league, this was always going to be a very competitive contest and when the teams entered the dressing rooms at half time with three points between them, the title really was up for grabs.

The Grattans had Ronan Finnegan between the posts, who pulled off some fine saves throughout the game

Ronan was superbly complemented by the defensive line-up of Padraig Deery, Dylan Curtis, Jason Woods, Aaron Gernon and Seamus Kindlon.

Each man had to fight really hard to ensure their opponents scores were kept to a minimum.

The midfield pairing of Michael Monahan and Peter Boylan put in a stellar performance supporting their defence and linking in with the forward line to help secure victory.

The forwards consisted of Cormac Boylan, Sean Russell, Christopher Hanratty and Andrew & Aidan Woods battled extensively to put the necessary scores on the board that ultimately brought the Silverware back to Grattan Pairc.

The team on the night was complemented by unused substitutes Aidan Campbell, Justin Sheridan, Padraig Russell, Gavin Dooley, Shane Martin and Micheál Coburn.

The Young Champions travelled back to Inniskeen Community Centre via Carrickmacross (amidst much horn blowing and shouts of jubilation) to celebrate a well earned victory with their supporters. Congratulations to one and all.

Ulster Champions:

What a weekend!

The old saying definitely applies in this regard, “Ulster titles are like buses”.

You can be waiting for an age, and then 2 unexpectedly come along.

That was the case last weekend in Clones when a full house was there to witness an extraordinary sequence of events.

Firstly the minors who got off to a dreadful start, staged a breath taking recovery from 8 points down with only ten minutes to go.

They left Tyrone and most of the onlookers stunned by overturning the deficit and claiming the title.

Our own Donal Meegan was against introduced as an impact sub and impact he definitely made, contributing a score to sure the game up.

We hope that his recent performances will be good enough to secure a starting place in the team for the Quarter final.

The game ended Monaghan 4-10 Tyrone 2-14.

The seniors took inspiration from the minor’s performance and produced the shock of the Championship to date by destroying any hopes Jimmy McGuiness men had of achieving the Holy Grail of Ulster football (three in a row).

From the first whistle Monaghan set about dismantling the theory that Donegal where the most physical team in the country by competing viciously on every breaking ball.

Tactics of blanket defence was applied by both coaches, however Monaghan implemented better use of the system overall and found an outlet in Kieran Hughes and Conor McManus enough during the match to do serious damage on the Donegal back line.

In the end Monaghan ran out comfortable winners by a score line of 13 points to 7 and in doing so brought back the Anglo Celt for the first time since 1988.

Players like Tommy Freeman, Paul Finlay, Vinny Corry, Owen Lennon, Dessie Mohan and Dick Clerkin finally have a title in their locker that matches the effort they have put in over the last 10 years.

Well done to both teams from all in Inniskeen and best of luck in the All Ireland Qtr finals.

Junior Championship in Pairc Grattan

Pairc Grattan welcomes Killanny and Toome for their junior football championship encounter on Sun 28^th at 2pm.

Can all Stewarts please be at the pitch for 1pm, to take your usual positions?

Cul Camps

The Kellogs Cul Camps took place last week in Pairc Grattan and we had a huge turnout. The kids learned a lot from the training and education provided by our own Pauric Dowdall and Monaghan Star Colin Walsh.
