Youth Affairs
U-16’s
The U-16 final against Doohamlet was played in Rockcorry on Thursday night last. What a game this turned out to be. Scores were flying in from all quarters from start to finish, and in the end Patrick Emmetts, Currin /Aghabog, despite being short a couple of players were worthy winners on a score line of 9-9 to 5-11. The Currin contingent certainly played their part in this great team win. In goals Kevin Murphy continued his great form with some excellent saves at key times and his excellently placed kick outs started many attacks. Terry Mc Entee in the full back line was magnificent, constantly breaking up the opponents attacks and intellegently setting up counter attacks. Ronan King in the half back line was outstanding, skillfully defending and attacking at will down the wing , his goal at he end was a just reward for a great game. Jason Mc Kiernan at midfield litterally played himself to a stand still against the strong Doohamlet midfield and his cultured left foot sprayed the ball accurately to a devestating forward line. Up front Conor Beattie showed some great skill with his deft touches setting up many scores. Damien Connolly, Dillon Greenan, Patrick Poynton and Mark Murphy made up the rest of the Currin representatives. This was an excellent amlgamation with our neighbours Aghabog, well done to them and all their players on this great win. Niall Mc Entee and Enda Mc Caffrey were our representatives on the management team and they deserve huge credit, well done everyone.
Ulster Senior Championship winners 2013
Currin G.F.C. send our heartiest congratulations to Monaghan on a fantastic win on Sunday last to bridge a 25 year gap and take back the Anglo Celt Cup. This 2013 Ulster Final was Dick Clerkin’s 150th competitive match for Monaghan in his fourteenth year as a senior inter-county footballer. To finally win an Ulster senior Championship medal is fitting indeed. A huge well done to Jack Mc Carron and Stephen Smith who made up the Currin representation. Three Ulster championship medals coming to our small club is a brilliant achievement and something to be really enjoyed and celebrated. Fantastic.
