Under 14– Div 4 Championship Final Drumhowan 9-9 Killeevan 5-9 – Drumhowan juveniles followed on from last years very successful season by picking up the championship trophy after defeating a gallant Killeevan side in a pulsating game on Tuesday night last in the pouring rain in Cremartin. This game was an absolute thriller and was right in the balance until early in the final quarter when Drumhowan managed to pull away. The scores were level at 3-7 each at half time and it was late in quarter three and early in quarter four when we struck the decisive blows. It was a superb team performance with every player giving his all and despite giving away pounds and inches all over the pitch our boys managed to play a fast slick passing game despite the terrible weather conditions. Team captain Tom Mc Guirk accepted the cup from Padraig Sherry after the game.
Niall Markey was safe and solid in goals and his kickouts were accurate. Joseph Duffy and Gerry Quinn were strong and cut out a lot of ball in the full backline with good reading of the game. Patrick Quinn and Dara Mc Elearney won some great ball and set up many counter attacks from the half back line. Team captain Tom Mc Guirk led by example at midfield and ran himself into the ground for the team both defending and attacking. Along side him Finbarr Brennan was excellent and won vital kickouts and set up many attacks. Aodhann Brennan won a lot of dirty ball in the half foward line and delivered quality ball inside. Daniel Tomany revelled when switched to the half foward line and produced a match winning contribution of 3-1 inside 20 minutes. Inside Cormac Duffy may be small in stature but was big in heart and won a lot balls he had no right to get. Along side him target man supreme Colm Mc Mahon was the go to man and he repeatedly won great ball and scored some mighty scores. Young subs Lee and Shay Treanor wernt used on the day but contributed during the campagin. Gary Duffy missed out through injury and we hope to see him back in action soon. Well done to our team management of Anthony Brennan, Padraig Duffy, Francis Mc Mahon, Paul Mc Guirk, Sean Smith and Barry Tomany for all their hard work and dedicitation with this group over the years.
All players and supporters went back to the Community centre afterwards for refreshments and to continue the celebratations.
