Senior Football

Our eagerly awaited local derby game against Clones was played in Scotshouse on Wednesday 12th last . This Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League fixture was played in front of a huge crowd and in a keenly contested first half Clones led at half time on a score of 1-3 to 0-4. In the second half Currin began to dominate with the defence on top, Conor Mc Caffrey and Sean Brady were excellent. The introduction of Paddy Mc Dermott made a difference and a fantastic point from Stephen Beatty gave us the platform to push on and claim the points. Seven points from Jack and two super goals from Dick saw us run out convincing winners in the end, 2-11 to 1-5. Team and scorers:- Fergal Connolly, Enda Mc Caffrey, Conor Mc Caffrey, Sean Brady, Ben Clerkin, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Gerard O Callaghan (0-1), Dick Clerkin, (2-1), Francis O Callaghan , (0-1), Dara Brady, Stephen Smyth, (0-1), Stephen Beatty (0-1), Philip O Callaghan (0-1), Jack Mc Carron, (0-7), Niall McEntee, Subs used, Paddy Mc Dermott for Dara Brady. On Sunday our postponed game against Inniskeen threw up a different result with the home side ending up two points ahead at the final whistle, 0-12 to 0-10. We played really well and despite being short a few key players were level at half time 0-5 to 0-5. Inniskeen went four up after the break but when Currin had fought back to narrow the gap to two points, play was halted so that the score board be changed to show the home side, incorrectly, four ahead. While the Currin players protested a free gave Inniskeen another point. After continued protest, from everyone including Inniskeen, the original scoreline was rectified but the momentum was now with the home side and they held out for a two point win.  Team and scorers:- Fergal Connolly, Enda Mc Caffrey, Conor Mc Caffrey, Sean Brady, Stephen Beatty, Ben Clerkin, Gerard O Callaghan , Ciaran Kierans, Francis O Callaghan, Tommy Maguire,  Stephen Smyth, (0-6), Paddy Mc Dermott, Philip O Callaghan, Jack Mc Carron, (0-4), Niall McEntee, Subs used, Dara Brady for Paddy Mc Dermott.

Joe Freeman R.I.P.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Joe Freeman, Scotshouse, who passed away last weekend. Joe was a great supporter of Currin GFC and always supported our fundraising Lotto.  We extend our sympathy to his extended family and friends.  Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.

Bill Mc Loughlin, R.I.P.

The Currin club wish to extend their sympathies to the Mc Loughlin family, Clones on the death of Bill Mc Loughlin, who passed away recently after a brief illness. Bill took a keen interest in all Gaelic games and had a great love for hurling. We particularly commiserate with his son Barry who is a valued member of our community and a former trainer and manager of various Currin teams, including our senior team. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
