Castleblayney Faughs

June 18th, 2013

Lotto – The numbers drawn in this weeks’ lotto, 17th June 2013 which took place in Corrigan’s Kitchen were 15, 16, 22 and 24. The four lucky dip winners of €50 each were Ollie Mooney, c/o Sarah Mackin, Wayne Funcheon, Castleblayney, Peter McMahon Snr, c/o Supervalu and Laurence Crilly, Belleek.  There was no Jackpot winner. Next weeks’ draw will take place in The Comet and the monthly prize for June is a BBQ. Good luck to everyone and many thanks for your continued support.

Seniors –  A mixed week with an entertaining draw against Doohamlet on Wednesday night followed by a loss to Monaghan Harps on Sunday lunchtime. The Doohamlet game was a typical local derby with no quarter asked or given. When Blayney were reduced to 14 men early in the 2nd half it looked like Doohamlet would pull away but a last quarter rally including a Dermot Malone goal gave us a deserved share of the points. Sundays performance was really poor with goals conceded early in both periods being the difference between the teams. This weeks’ fixture with Ballybay has been postponed owing to the county teams continued participation in the Ulster Championship.

Junior B’s –  The Bs travel to Monaghan on Sunday morning for a 12PM throw-in

The Gathering – Last Thursday evening saw a crowd of over 40 people from Castleblayney assemble in the Dressing Rooms of St Marys Park for the first meeting of the Faughs Gathering. Over an hour, the collective brains pulled together some great ideas for the Gathering weekend which runs from the21st to the 24th of August. In an effort to appeal to as many people as possible the programme will include the Summer Camp starting on Wednesday, a cultural evening on Thursday, an open golf competition at Concra Wood Championship Course and on Saturday a Gala Ball in the Glencarn Hotel.  If the energy, positivity and craic demonstrated at the meeting is anything to go by, then we are in for a brilliant weekend. If you want to get involved, please just contact any committee member, this will really be an event not to be missed.

Old Photos & Memorabilia: As part of our Gathering Plans, the Club is looking for any old photos or memorabilia you may have relating to the Club from down through all the years. All items will be returned as received and we would ask that if you know names or years etc that you give these also. All items to be forwarded to the Club Secretary: Melissa Conlon at email secretary.castleblayney.monaghan@gaa.ie This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or can be left for Melissa’s attention with any committee member, in Supervalu, Ned Kelly’s or to the field. We would really appreciate your help with this.

Under 10 Girls – Last Saturday saw the Club hold the first ever Girls Under 10 Go Games in County Monaghan. St Mary’s Park was packed as 12 teams from around the county participated in a very well- run Blitz. The Faughs fielded two Girls teams and both teams played fantastically well from the first to the last whistle. This is a talented group of players with a bright future, their skill level was excellent and they demonstrated the real Faughs” never quit” attitude as they won each of their games. Well done to all the players and mentors as we have taken another good step in our development of Ladies football in Castleblayney. Training continues on Monday evenings
